    Hello.

I am the sad owner of a Sager NP8170 / Clevo P170HM with a dead GPU. From reading in the forums and contacting my reseller and Sager directly, I’ve learned that it just isn’t possible to get a new video card of decent quality. I’ve started searching Ebay, but the selection is limited and the prices are high.

I’m wondering if it is possible to get an MSI GPU to work in a Sager/Clevo? I know that Alienware isn’t possible.

    Thank you for any advice!

I don't believe that will be an option for you. An Alienware GPU iirc will work with a modded bios/vbios. There are a few threads from the past that have been posted on this topic previously that should shed some light with a little digging.

Hello, and thank you for that feedback. Unfortunately there have been several posts on these boards the EC controller of HM is incompatible with the dell gpu card series. I'm 99% sure that the Alienware GPUs will not be compatible. That's why I started looking at MSI.
If anyone has any other thoughts, or a spare quality Sager / Clevo video card available at a reasonable price please let me know.
    Thank you, again.

MSI cards are the same way, it's the clevo EC which was non standard in the HM machines.
