I'm just curious whether I can simply hold on to my Sager Vista OEM installation disc and the corresponding product key if I decide to sell my current system and purchase another Sager unit with no OS. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Legally, no. You cannot transfer an OEM license to another computer.

In technical terms it's feasible, but it's against Microsoft's EULA and therefore illegal to do. OEM licenses are tied to the computers they are first installed on.

That's why if you change computers a lot, you just do what I did - buy a retail copy of the OS and transfer it every three months :p

I would say no (for the license if activated).... but usually (from past experience), those OEM Windows disc itself... especially from a custom OEM.... are just clean Windows.

If you compare the ISO with another OEM ISO (that can be bought in DIY PC stores).... they are the same.

So those disc are usually not specific to models (since you will still have to load all drivers after install), rather they are usually the same "clean" Windows disc that has just been branded on the disc (and maybe an icon of the OEM in the System Properties).

I have tested this theory since I have access to almost all Windows ISOs by being a member of Microsoft Technet.

The disc is transferable, yes, but the license is not. You would need to get a new serial from somewhere, and the only way to get that is to buy a new copy of windows....which comes with a new disc...
