I found out that I have a can of WD-40
Is it ok to use this thing cleaning my fan vent?
Blow off some dusts or whatever.

Don't. You'd be better off blowing with your mouth (in this case).

    Use compressed air.

    This must be a joke.
Actually, compressed vinegar would be better.

Compressed air is like $10. I wouldn't risk screwing my fans for $10.

Don't use WD-40 on your computer.

It greasy stuff, used to loosen nuts, bolts and keep door hinges from squeaking...

The only reason to use WD-40 anywhere in the notebook is to revive a dying fan (using just a drop or so)... it actually helps to clean the center of the fan (near the bearings).

It has been useful a number of times for me, I helped a friend clean out his Lenovo fan with just about a drop of WD-40.... he was going to pay $75 to get a new fan/heatsink until I showed him.

ball bearing fan is one thing, but spraying it in or on a laptop...sounds more like malicious behavior to me.

to the OP. under no circumstances are you to directly spray wd-40 on your laptop..unless of course you want to void your warranty or like to take chances. if so...then disregard & spray away. but we wont be able to help you after you do this or should you decide to do this and your laptop crashes.

If you use it in the rain a lot, it'll help repell water off the fan bearings....lol

Actually, I prefer to give mine a good acid dip - every time I run over with an auto body that needs restoring, I chuck the laptop in there with the body! :D

I dont know if this is an old thread or not and if im restoring a very old thgread i apologize, I came here from google after searching for "clean laptop with wd 40"

The reason i searched for this was that, today while checking out the market for a new laptop, i went to a shop where they were dealing with used laptops, i noticed that the guy was just spraying wd 40 on all the laptops and scrubbing them clean, i said nothing and walked out, but suddenly my mind kicked in and im like, wait he cant do that.

i went back in to confront the guy and ask him ?? cause i heard that u have to be very careful about the stuff u apply to ur lappy while cleaning it.

He replied that i have been doing this for ages, cleaning all my laptops with wd 40 and they have been made for this purpose.

he was so confident in his reply that he got me thinking and thuse searching for it on google.

Im glad i came here before applying wd 40 to my HP :)
