I really dont get this why are everyone advertising there 8800M GTX as MXM 2.1 III? Does a 8800M GTX MXM 2.1 III exist? Every single ebay auction i see they advertise their cards as III but all have the extra HE pin on them. So then its a HE or a III-HE?. As i understand it a HE or III-HE will fit on a MXM 2.1 III chipset but it will consume more power right?

Iv even seen it as an MXM 2.1 IV too. Can anyone clarify what MXM 2.1 this cards is? And if there is a 8800M GTX MXM 2.1 III? That means without the HE pin.

I'm pretty sure there's only one MXM 8800M GTX in existence. They all have the HE tab, and that's what you need.

Also this list made me more confused...

    MXM notebooks before 3.0

It says I got a IV. And thats a card with the HE extra power tab cut off.

And Its not cut off on 8800M GTX.

And thats HE right? Why this misleading information at MXM notebooks before 3.0 is still up is weird I thought this was a legit source of info. It seems like all the IV cards on that list could be HE cards. On the list it doesnt show any HE cards at all.

There is no officially mandated IV. III + HE tab is what they call IV.

People say IV for some reason sometimes.

He knows what to buy, hes just confused.

I feel like this photo will clear everything up:

Basically NONE of it matters but the physical space in the chassis.

There are ATI 4850 cards in type II. Theres basically some crazy out there, but the slot is the same.

HE tab is more standard but doesn't actually do anything at all most of the time. The card in that laptop (msi gx620) does not have the HE tab connected whatsoever, but the card works 100%.

MSI also shipped that laptop out with MXM II cards like the 9600m GT.

The only thing that laptop can't fit is the type IV because it wont phsyicially fit, but I am positive it would run some type IV cards just fine if you stripped it down to the mainboard.

Thats not really true... IV definitely means bigger. The people who say IV instead of III + HE are usually ebay sellers or us (btw, anyone else ever get their own forum threads as the first google result? )
