Hi guys, my Malibal HD6990m just die a week ago.

My screen is showing up vertical lines and It would only boot in VGA mode.

So i plan to buy another HD6990m since it is still a great card.

My question is, can a Dell HD6990m with black PCB fit into my Malibal/Sager P170Hm? The clevo HD6990m is in green PCB.

    Will there be any issues?

    Kindly advise,
    Thanks

Fairly confident I've heard reports that they've been brought over before, takes a little bit of work on the heatsink and back plate to fit. If you already have those parts from your old card though, you should be good. I'll see if I can uncover some old forum posts on it.

    Hi MrDJ,

Thanks for your replay. I will try to bake my card tomorrow, lots of people say it is not a permanent fix, it really depends on your luck.

By the way, i have ordered a Dell HD6990m in case the Oven Trick doesn't work.

    Thanks & BRs,

    good luck.
as i said "life varys from a month to over a year" these have been reported over the years on here.
for some it just doesnt help at all and other had well over a year of resurrection.

all the baking does is slightly melts the solder contacts which have cracked and thus killed the card. the melting reconnects the solder contacts and then hopefully gives some more life to the card.

Dear Derek@XoticPC, all the while i only see people buying Clevo HD6990m/6970m to fit into their Alianwares, but not seeing people doing the other way round. Other than the GPU bios, I assume the Dell HD6990m and Cleve HD6990m are physically identical, therefore the existing P170HM heatsink and back plate should fit..

By the way, thanks for telling me that you have heard before.

I would maybe return the dell card and save up for an upgrade rather than a replacement.

Yeah, especially since the baking method used here is usually a temporary fix as it is, that would be wise.

You should be able to pick up a 770M in MXM form or 8970M for a reasonable amount.

Oh I think that should get fixed, otherwise a 7970M/680M for cheap is still very nice.

modding .inf files is pretty straight forward, if the 780m follows in the 680m's foot steps, but that modded 7970m vbios came directly from clevo/sager, so itll probably be more difficult to modify the respective 8970m vbios on our own. then again, there wont be a need to sidegrade to a 8970m anyways, if the leaked performance numbers hold to be true :p

What is the price point on the 780m going to be? I have a 680m lined up to replace my 6990m that'll cost me around $650. Is that worth it?

for a 680m, thats actually a pretty decent price. but only if that's a new card including heatsink and the whole shebang.

    @meaker: what is?
