i just want to know how the are around the palm rests feel (rough) and if the look of the sager is too bland or plain or uncomfortable. my other choie laptop is the asus g-50 a2...totally different cases.

the sager looks very very nice. but there are a few design flaws you should note
1) the placement of the mic right where a lot of people rest their right palm. defeats the purpose of a mic.
2) placement of cd rom button - where most people pick up the laptop. Very annoying.
Aside from that th laptop has got a very nice design and the palm area is not quite that bad except sometimes when the right palmrest area gets too warm for comfort.
However, on the whole, it is a very nice looking laptop. VERY STURDILY built. -

8660 feels smooth to the touch, looks are modest, nothing flashy kinda dull. Basically you'll sacrafice vainty for a fast system.

haha DRTH, cd rom gettin to u too... haha I thought it was just me.

I like the 8660's look a lot. It's sleek, the finish on the palm rest and lid are very catching in a simple way, and there's just enough silver trim to catch the eye. I like that there's no latch on the lid, which is a big plus for me, as well as the sturdy, solid hinges.
My laptop has been given compliments from at least twenty people since I received it. The brushed finish is what most people seem to comment on the most, besides the trackpad. -
lol yeah man. and that useless mic we've got. I mean honestly!
-
I actually think the mic is pretty good. With the settings it allows (check the realtek audio manager settings in control panel), you can be listening to music and have someone using a lawnmower in the background and your voice is still recorded without that interference clearly. Also tested it with the obstruction of the palms, voice stills comes through relatively decent.
-
could you possibly give me some pics up-close to kinda show what the texture really looks like. cause all the pics ive seen are far away and awkward
-
no kidding eh? never tested it - just assumed it was lousy. lol.
-
If you look around a bit you can find lots of pics, even close ups. The pics really kinda show the texture that the case has. Although it feels really smooth it kinda looks like it has a feel.
Way sexier than my girlfriend's Dell inspiron!
Also, I couldn't complain at all about the mic, I don't have a sager, but my mic can pick up my voice from across the room. I've honestly used skype from about 25 feet away and still had the mic pick up my voice.
Also, I personally have not had a problem with the DVD drive, granted hitting the button lightly ejects it, it doesn't happen all that much for me since the button is about 1.5 inches from the front of the notebook(not where I grab it)
Again, I think the DVD drive and the mic are things I thikn Eurocom put in, not clevo. -
Aesthetically, the Sager NP8660 is a beautiful system.
One of the things I wasn't a fan of was that any powerful laptop glowed or was far too out there. This notebook has a classy look without delving into the glossy piano black that gets riddled with fingerprints. It's important to note, however, that some fingerprints can be left on the lid or palm rest but it's not really much of a thing to worry about (because of the wood-like finish) if you keep your hands and fingers clean.
The only nitpicky bits I've noticed was that there is no indicator for caps lock, and the network cable and a couple USB ports can get in the way of my using the mouse on the right side. I haven't had any trouble with the cd tray button getting in the way yet. -

It is more like the natural oil from your finger prints give the lid a grease stained look. And personally I like the glowing
also no caps lock wasn't a plus.
-
Never bothered to use the mic lol but i agree with @HEVampersand, this notebook is a beautiful system and why the hell you wouldnt want a flashy/glowing laptop that doesnt even have a good spec in it... the normal and yet elegant look of this notebook is nevertheless fit my style and i really love it having a plain/low-profile looking notebook with a superb spec in it...
the cosmetic is well apply but yeah the only issue is the mic placement...
-
You are in for a treat with the m15x... Certainly looks more flashy.
-
The cosmetics? Eh, not as good as Lancome, but better than Este Lauder.
-
and there is no button on the cd/dvd tray so no accidental openings. you have to press Fn & i think F8 (as far as i can remember) to open the tray.
back to the 8660. does anyone find the firewire is a little awkward at the front and also anyone using the x-fi sound card with the added module for 5.1/7.1 does it get in the way of your mouse. -
If the m15x is Jean Paul Gaultier, then the 8660 is a solid Givenchy.
-
What do you mean there's no indicator for the caps lock?
Isn't there a panel of leds in the front of the laptop where the Caps Lock led is included?
At least, that's what the manual says... -
Caps Lock is the 5th light, NumLk the 4th, ScrLk the 6th -.-
...as is indicated in the manual. -
oh yes there is.
-
That's what I thought...
Probably not the best positions... but they are there...
Pfff... these people all trying to give us wrong info!!!
-
 That's a funny comparison, and exactly what I think of Alienwares - flashy, not that well designed (since Dell bought them :/), definitely designed for gaming and really embarrassing to take with you to work, have parents-in-law see them, etc. It's actually really hard to find near-top-of-the-line 3D gaming notebooks that don't look like a they're a 15 year old's wet dream, with glowing scribbles, or red flames, or a world of warcraft montage ( I ran from dell...). Now, the m15x's accents look nicer than most (but mainly because I like the blue color option they have) but I wouldn't want it on a machine that I plan on using for years and years since I'd get tired of it fast, and frankly, the flash feels immature. Actually, the NP9262 looks the way I'd want a notebook to look - the NP8660 is borderline too flashy/sleek, but more understated than any other option.
Yeah, we're the people that buy reliable car shaped cars that don't get stopped by the cops for tickets for no reason.
