Hi. I just received my NP8170 from xoticpc today. I haven't powered it on yet, but I've installed a Crucial M4 128GB SSD and moved the HDD from the primary slot to the secondary. I've also added 8GB more of RAM. I've never done anything with a computer before besides buy it, turn it on, and use it. I don't know how to get into the bios, and I wouldn't know what to do once I got there. I have no idea how to go about installing windows 7 on the SSD. I saw a video on Youtube where the guy said to make sure that the original HDD that had the OS on it was not installed. He then said to put the windows 7 install disk in and do something with the bios. I am so confused. I already had put the HDD in the secondary slot before I saw the video. Unfortunately, J.P. at Xoticpc got really busy and isn't able to help walk my dumb @ss through this install.
Is there anyone willing to help me get this setup? I really want to get to use my new laptop tonight.

Did you get Windows 7 installed on the hard drive it shipped with? Either way, just put in your Windows 7 install disk, press F7 (the option for select boot device) when you see the first screen come up after pressing the power button. It should let you choose a boot option, so choose the CD/DVD drive. You'll boot into the Windows installer.
From there it's pretty self explanatory, just step through the installer and make sure you select your SSD when it asks which drive to install to. When it's done, you'll reboot and go right to the new install.
If Windows wasn't installed on the laptop when you ordered it, you may need to go to start > right click my computer, manage > disk management and create a partition on your hard drive before it shows up in My Computer.
You don't have to do anything special really, Windows will detect that it's an SSD and run all the stuff that NEEDS to be going (like TRIM support) -
Thanks a lot! That wasn't bad at all.
I do have another question though: It's saying that there are "no connections available" in regards to the internet. I have an Intel 6230 in the laptop. Is there something I have to do to turn it on? -

Did you install all the drivers from the driver disk? (specifically, the hotkey and intel proset wireless)? If so, try FN+F11 to enable the wifi. If not, try getting all the drivers up and running.

Thanks again!
Now that I've got windows on the SSD, do I need to delete it from the HDD? If so, how do I do that? Sorry for the annoying questions. I'm really ignorant about this stuff. -

You can right click on your hard drive (as long as your booted into the OS on your SSD) and select Format.
That will wipe all data on the HDD. You can then partition it into other partitions if needed.
Enjoy the new 8170 -

What Justin said will work. You can also go through Start > right click My Computer, Manage > Disk management, if you need to set up multiple partitions or do anything more complex.
Enjoy your new toy too
Can someone please help?
