After installing the new AMD BETA drivers, I'm unable to read the temperature of the 7970M.
I've tried MSI Afterburner, Kombuster, HWMonitor & GPU-Z. Didn't work. (I've set the profile of each of these to "High Performance" as well..)
Can check the Intel HD-4000 details (including temperature) no problem. Just nothing for the 7970M. It's like it's not even detected.

Does anyone know what software/method I can use to check the GPU temperature?
I know it's running very hot cause the fan's spinning at maximum speed & there's a lot of very hot air from the exhaust.

Also, I'm on Windows 8 (If that makes a difference)

Me and a few others like you who only got clean beta drivers installed have the same issue. I think its because the drivers are not the official ones yet, therefore the programs do not recognize them. I am not sure how to put it right. I am pretty sure that if you would install some stock drivers first and then beta .11 on top the temps and other info like clock speeds would show, however, I am too busy at the moment to mess with my gpu drivers again, especially when the beta ones are working fine except from temps not showing.

Yeah, I could.. but the performance from these "Performance" drivers is not as good as the latest BETA drivers. I get much better FPS with the BETA Drivers. Don't think I'll be going back. Can't play ACIII on the perf. drivers.

Yeah, you're probably right. Nothing to do but wait for new drivers, eh?

This happens to me every time I have installed a new Catalyst driver. Go to windows search, type regedit, and set Enable ULPS parameter from 1 to 0. Reboot.
Crossfire - disabling ULPS This is my own bookmark witch I use everytime to disable this "Enable ULPS". (Can´t remember the right row)

You might want to backup your registry or make a restore point before you do that. You won't brick your system with a registry tweak, but you are liable to mess up your OS.

The EnableULPS tweak is used to enable overclocking with Afterburner, but it doesn't allow Afterburner to read temps on Enduro laptops from my experience. The 12.11 Performance driver will allow you to check temps with any software, but with the 12.11 betas I can only read temps with HWiNFO64. You can download it here HWiNFO64 Download

Thanks man. I was able to read it with HWiNFO64.

My card's running at 80 degrees with just Chrome running.. & I haven't even set Chrome to 'High Performance'. Think I need to do some un/re-installing. Wish this AMD Driver fiasco was over already!

    Get a GTX. ;)

    On a more serious note:
In my AMD days, reverting to a previous version of the drivers would usually fix stuff like this. Another thing you could possibly try doing is getting (if you got the computer from a manufacturer such as HP) the manufacturers special drivers, if they have any. That would usually fix problems with my AMD.

I'm glad I swapped to Nvidia, a lot fewer problems like this now. -.-

80 degrees?! Celius or Fahrenheit? With no other programs running? That's definitely not supposed to happen :/ Even if you were to set Chrome to high performance, it shouldn't run anywhere near that hot. 80C is normal under high load, like heavy gaming or stress-testing, but it should be in the 30s while idle. Is the fan running on high all the time?

Older drivers are plagued by Enduro under-utilization, so I definitely wouldn't recommend that if you game. Sager and Clevo's stock drivers are awful and haven't been updated in ages. The newest drivers offer the best performance by far, though some people report BSODs on startup. It used to happen a lot for me on the earlier 12.11 betas, but my laptop is always stable unless I overclock past 1050 core now. If you are experiencing BSODs, boot your laptop while unplugged from the psu and plug it back in a couple minutes after you have logged into Windows. That shouldn't be necessary with the newer beta drivers though.

Yeah, well.. lucky you! With no problems. On most days, I don't have any problems. But then there are days like today! :(

Yep. I know it's not supposed to happen. It should happen when I'm playing Hitman or ACIII or some stress tests (I never do any stress tests).
The fan's been running non-stop on max all the time. That's why I wanted to monitor the temperature in the first place. Knew something was up.

Trying to figure out the best way to back up my current state before I get into uninstalling & installing some other drivers. Not particularly happy about going back to the "Performance" drivers..

My card used to idle at the 35 degree level. Always. Max temperature was at 87 when I had maxed out games..

Yep. Just uninstalled all AMD stuff. Peace & quiet. (For a while, at least.) This new BETA 11 was working fine for me (while giving me the best performance yet) till a couple of days ago when the fan just never slowed down & my laptop was always hot. Dunno what went wrong, but hopefully a re-install will fix things.

Stock drivers are the most stable, but also the worst for gaming - like you pointed out.

I've never once overclocked my card & I've never had a BSOD either. (Except this one time, when I was switching between Sager's stock drivers & some modded drivers I found on Rage3D & back to Sager's)

Wow, keep us posted. I really hope reinstalling the drivers fixes it. It's just such a weird problem... like the gpu is running at max clocks and full utilization even when it's not it use.

Solved. Not sure how, but the "Application Profiles" was the issue. Clean installation of the driver didn't solve anything. But when I removed the Profiles, everything's back to normal.

Hmmm, so you had CAP2 installed with the beta11, and removing it fixed the issue. I've been wondering what CAP2 does exactly, I didn't notice a performance difference with or without it. Anyway I'm glad you got it sorted out, it couldn't have been good for the gpu to running like that constantly.

CAPs are primarily for dual GPU setups and hold crossfire profiles for applications, they can have certain profiles for single GPU setups on occasion though IIRC.

It was probably a bug. You can always check your temp with your hand. Fan blowing cool air? GPU is cold.
My lowest temp is 31C. Yes it is a bug too. When Enduro switches 7970M off, fan continues to run. Why? Fan adjusts itself with temperature. 7970M is off, so does temp sensor. I let it run for some time and opened Furmark.
