I was bored today and decided to try to OC my GPU for the first time.

However, whenever I tried to even go slightly higher than the stock High-settings clocks (680/900), it would crash the computer, usually with a GSOD.

I tried to OC using The built in overdrive in CCC and ATI Tray Tools.

I've read on these forums that people OC this card with no problems, so I'm not sure what I (or my card) is doing wrong.

It just may not be possible with your card. The way they bin cards means that there's a bit of variation between models of the same card. Some can have lots of headroom and some can have none. It's entirely possible that you got a card with no OC stability.

That said, you might want to try other drivers to see if it's also just a driver issue.

i am currently using the 11.9 RC driver.

I never knew that the OC capability was different from card to card of even the same model. Thanks for the info.

This is true. You can have 2 EXACT cards, one will overclock well with high settings and the other will just barely OC. Yours should overclock to some extent though... ;)

I tried both Ati Tray Tools and the built-in AMD Overdrive in CCC. When I try it in ATT, i get a GSOD. When I tried it in Overdrive, I also got a GSOD, but it was worse. When I hardbooted, windows would load, but then 5 seconds after it would GSOD again. Uninstalling and re-installing the drivers fixed that issue.

Since I've had these problems, OC seems like too much of a risk for me, since i really don't want to RMA.
