So, my max budget is $1350. I can't seem to decide between the Asus G74SX or building my own Clevo p170hm. I currently have a 320gb hdd, and 4gb of ddr3 memory, which plays into me building the clevo. It seems I'd have more options with the clevo also, but I just can't seem to make up my mind. Any advice?

with the asus the max you can do is a gtx560, i dunno after taken out 4gb and hdd, if you decide to go with a 6990/485, will that fall into your budget or not.if it doesnt, than clevo does not have a huge advantage compared to a g74sx, because you will be using gtx 560m anyway

Clevo hands down. Let me tell you my experience with Asus. I ordered an Asus from Newegg. It worked for 2 days, then at the end of the second day, it wouldn't turn on. This was the computer's fault, I'm not an idiot. I did press the power button reeeeaaallly hard, and it was in the power. The only thing that ever showed a change was the charge notification light. Thankfully newegg let me do an RMA refund.

Now I'm about to buy a sager, either np8170 or an 8150. I can tell right now that this is what I should have gotten from the beginning.

Advantages. First and foremost, customization. You can change the screen, the ram, the hard drive, the optical drive, the processor, and above all the graphics card. All apparently with ease. This would mean that in 3 years, you don't have to buy a completely new laptop to play a game. Also, the price points of sagers are much more fair.

Another note about the price. Apparently right now xoticpc is offering 190$ off plus free shipping on sager laptops. With that discount, you can customize an np8150 at 1324$ (without cash discount) with a 6990m. A 6990m is basically a desktop 6870 stuck in a laptop, though underclocked by about 20% or so. This is twice as good as the gpu in the best asus laptop right now which is the gtx 560m. For the same price point, you could also get a gtx 485m which is also twice as good as the 560.

The relative value you're getting for this is insane.

Go with sager. The prices don't compare.

Always go for a model that suits your budget, and also the parts upgradable. :)

I'm not seeing the $190 off, and what really would be my biggest difference between the 150hm and the 170hm besides screen of course.

    The only differences are:

    - 220w power supply versus 180w on the P150HM
    - 2 hard drive bays on the P170HM
    - Different exterior finishes
    - Screen sizes and upgrades
    - CPU overclockable if you have an XM processor

Other than that, the internals can be configured the same.

Oh the p150hm is soft touch? I gotta say that's a deal breaker on that. I planned on putting stickers on my laptop. Also, I had an m11x, and I hate the soft touch. Rubs off way to easy, and then the laptop looks like crap, especially around the edges. Also, as far as them not picking up fingerprints, I think the complete opposite. It seemed like my m11x was actually a grease magnet.

Ah, so I gotta contact a representative that's on the forums for the $190 off. I wish I could get it through them, but minus the HD, and the Ram, and save a little more. Otherwise I won't use them.

I don't see any point on comparing, I had a G73 and sold it to get a Clevo P170HM because the G74 was not a real upgrade (except for the keyboard that is amazing =p)

If you go into the Malibal SATORI P170HM config site: Satori P170HM - MALIBAL you can see the offer on Builds under 1500 USD and get 50 USD discount to end up at 1294 + shipping (around 40 USD) that's still under 1350 USD (because they don't charge you TAX)

    1. On the base config It will have the REAL GTX 560M at 192bit (not Nerf, like in Best buy at 128bit), correct me if I'm wrong... but I have seen examples of this.

    2. You get 8Gb of ram instead of 4gb. (actually is 8 vs 8 on the G74)

    3. You get 500Gb Hard drive at 7200Rpm instead of a 320gb. (The G74 on Bestbuy have 750Gb)

    4. You get a Hannstar stock screen that might be different to the stock screen on the G74... I dunno about this.

^^ Well its for you to decide tho.

Hi, actually - we offer FREE Ground Shipping to Active NBR Members, so - if they are shipping in the US outside of Nevada - the total would just be the cost of the notebook. :)

I think I'll go with Xotic, seems like the best bang for my buck. with discounts it puts me just under my budget. Also, I get the hd 6990m, whereas I'd otherwise get the base config for the same price anywhere else(with the 560M).

It would come down mainly to size with that comparison. Same GPU, CPU, RAM etc..

Feel free to contact me or any of our other reps and we can review our active NBR Discounts. :)
