I should get my new 5793 Friday (tomorrow). I'm having trouble sleeping till then. Standard config, except I went for the WSXGA+ screen.

Can't wait to play COD4 at full rez and high (I hope). I'm sure to have more questions then. NBR is awesome - thanks guys.

Sorry I miss stated the "Standard config". What I meant was standard fair for the majority of new orders that I have seen here at NBR lately (not standard for XOticPC). Yes to 8800gtx. I corrected my sig, thanks theriko.

I hope the build is up to my expectations via Chaz's review and not the other "cheap plastic" thread I read here. The ASUS in my sig has been a very good laptop performance wise, but I was little disappointed in the finish on that model. It is the only laptop I own where the color of the palm rest has actually started to rug off. Although many people put down Dell, the dell 8600 I have (my wife uses it now) is still a workhorse with zero problems for 4 years - plastic and all.

Anyway I can't wait much longer and can't afford much more lose of sleep. I have read almost everything here I can get my hands on, but there is so much that I can't retain it all. I plan to start with Vista 64 Ultimate and may dual boot XP Pro32 SP3. Any recommendations from NBR will be greatly appreciated - stock drivers, BIOS, 64 bit gotchas, etc.

OK, it will be here today.

I'll be loading Vista 64. Any driver loading order issues, or BIOS changes I should make before loading Vista?

    Thanks in advance.

Finally - it's here 5:30 PM. I am loading Vista 64 Ultimate now.

I like the quality of the plastic casing, screen seems OK (about average) SWXGA+, some light leakage. Normal fan noise at present (loading) is not bad, but noticeable. Fan on high (Fn + 1) is really loud.

More later - I'm very happy so far.

Good things come to those who wait ... and a new Clevo is always a good thing :D

Now if only those lazy UPS guys would get that thing inside a damn plane and fly it over Spain!

@UPS guys - I'll keep watching the skies and if I see a UPS plane somewhere I also expect to see a Clevo laptop attached to a parachute shortly after!!!

"cheap plastic", BS. It's not like a F'in tough book or anything, but the structural integrity it does achieve is complemented by its relatively light weight. A very nice blend of form and function I say.

Thought I'd give another update on my 5793 - Vista Ultimate 64.

    1) I'm very please with the overall quality of the notebook from Sager. It meets all my expectations in look and feel, and feels like a quality build.

    2) I have played COD4 at full rez and all high settings. Spectacular playing and visual experience - it is fantastic. I did notice a couple stutters here and there, but they did not distract from game play. I may get even better results later with different drivers.

I originally loaded the 174.90 drivers from Sager's site dated May 8. I ran 3DMark06 default settings with these drivers and got: WSXGA+

    9168 3DMark
    4229 SM2.0
    3978 SM2.0
    2289 CPU

I have now loaded drivers 175.63 from LaptopToGo and tested with these scores as result: WSXGA+

    8805 3DMArk
    4051 SM3.0
    3744 SM2.0
    2279 CPU

This is lower than before. I will run the test again to see if the score changes due to other factors perhaps.

How can I tell what my FPS are in COD4? Anyone?

I have 2 nits so far with the Laptop - neither would be a deal breaker for me.

nit 1: The sound jacks on the front. For me this is a really bad location. I mean i'm already paranoid about the headphone jack going bad and I can see why in this location - TOO EASY TO HIT/KNOCK! I work from my lazyboy chair using a lapdeak from Levenger. When I have headphones plugged in, the post is only 0.5 inches from my belly. Also the jack post sticks out over the edge of the LapDesk making it far more easily hit.

nit 2: This is the bigest nit I have! The power cord from the brick to the laptop is way too short. It is a good 2 to 3 ft too short for my sitting arrangement. This has not been a problem for any other laptop I have used. This makes it a delicate situation when I get up and place the lapdesk/laptop on the floor in front of the chair, or bringing it back up to the chair. If i'm not careful the cord would pull the laptop off (BAD). Even if I were working from a desk it appears to me that the brick would have to be on the desk, not the floor - not good. CORRECTION: I ordered a spare power adapter for my 5793 and it has a shorter cord than the main adapter (why?). SO when I checked the other power adapter this morning after first posting this message, I found it to be longer and this is adequate for my usage. So nit 2 no longer an issue except nit 2b: Why would the extra power adapter be different from the original?

    VISTA 64 - small problem:
The one gotcha in Vista64 for me (so far), is VPN. The Cisco VPN I need to get into my work network is not compatible with 64bit OS. The way I got around this is to run VIrtual PC 2007 64 with an XP image. This works nicely with the VPN and any other working software I need for my office work compatibility.

That is all for now. Even wit the nits, I love it and would recommend this machine to anyone. More later...

    Joe

Yes, I have to pay tax (16% for Spain) but you can always declare a lower value and you won't have to pay a lot of taxes.

I would mind sending it back for RMA and pay for shipping.
What annoys me the most are the weeks of waiting just for the shipping alone but I bought it from Rambo29 and he said basically everything is working and I really prefer to buy used laptops when I'm buying international just because the person who's selling it can confirm that it is fully working.

has anyone (Joe maybe?) checked out the battery runtime with this unit? I'm considering Dell 1731 (~2.3hrs). But just heard about this brand here, so I'm checking it out. Thanks!
