Ok so I just got my new SSD, a Corsair Force 3 240GB, maybe not the fastest SSD available but got it really cheap and it's still a nice upgrade from my Intel 320 160GB :)

Installed Win 7 HP x64 and a few other programs (such as firefox, thunderbird intel RST etc) and all was well. Went on to install Adobe flash player and Realtek 2.67 audio and boom goes my laptop :( not literally ofcourse but all of a sudden I can't install and/or run alot of programs. All I get is a windows error messege saying "this program has stopped working".

    Example of programs:
    Adobe flash player won't install
Intel RST won't run anymore(was working before)
    Intel MEI won't install
    THX trustudio won't run

So far I've tried to reflash different SSD firmwares, no change...
Installed and uinstalled some of the programs that are not working (like Intel RST, firefox, Realtek 2.67) with no luck...
Also made sure ACHI is enabled in BIOS...

    Any ideas what to do?

Did everything work fine on your Intel 320?

Say it did. Ever considered formatting your drive to it's brand new self? :) helped me once.

Since its still a fresh install your best option might be to do another clean install. Or considered using the Windows restore point if you havent disabled it yet.

If everything worked before adding that drive, and you've already tried a clean install- it may be a failing drive. I don't know if you can get a utility like the Intel SSD toolkit, but a program that can read the SMART status of the drive would help.

Also sounds like a bad drive to me.

And the unfortunate part of a failing SSD is that it is usually the controller that goes. This gives you a recovery rate of 0% and can basically be considered catastrophic. I'd switch back to your known-good drive and run diagnostics on the other one when it's not holding any of your important data.

On that note, I thought some companies swap out controller chips of the same brand, wouldn't that work as the data is already stored in the NAND?

Correct. Just like an HDD, if it's the controller that goes- you can theoretically just swap it out for a good one. That's on the assumption that that IS the part that failed, otherwise you're out the money for the replacement board.

I've had similar problems before. My first guess is that you have incorrect drivers installed for your hard drive controller.

    Try this:
First - reinstall Windows (sorry, I know it's a pain)
Before you install anything else, install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. I recommend you use the one on the driver CD that came with your computer (you can always upgrade later once your computer is verified as stable)
After that you can install the rest of your drivers/applications.
See if this fixes your problem.

If you are still experiencing crashes/problems then my next guess would be either bad RAM (test this with MEM86+) or a failing hard drive.

Good luck, please let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the replies guys, appreciate it! :)

Just to make things clear, the intel 320 was my previous drive and it was working perfectly.
When I got the new Corsair drive (brand new), I reformated it and did a clean win 7 install.

Did get Intel SSD toolbox running but since I've never used it before I really don't know what to look for... However I did take some screenshots from it:

Gonna try a fresh Win install and re-format the entire drive in case it's just Win messing it up.
Otherwise I guess I'll have to return the disk to the reseller...

The Intel toolbox won't help you much since it's not an Intel drive. As you noticed, most of it is inaccessible. I'd honestly just tell you to see about getting a replacement then as your old drive did not have any issues and your fresh install had a ton of drive related problems.

Ok so I tried another fresh Win7 install and installed Intel RST first like recommended. Seemed to be working at first but noticed after a while that the "this program has stopped working" errors kept coming back (even if it was occurring less frequently this time) so I decided to head down to the shop where I bought it. Turns out the sales rep was in a good mood, not only was i allowed to exchange the disk on the warranty but I was also able to upgrade it for a few bucks to a Samsung 830 256GB :D

Thanks for all the help guys! :)
(The new disk is working perfectly!)
