Forgive me if this has been asked about before, I just can't seem to find anything relevant.

I'm trying to upgrade my CPU and am unable to remove the heatsink from the corner of the laptop.

After removing the 3 screws around the CPU, the service manual (M57RU_SM4.pdf) simply states to "Carefully lift the heat sink (Figure 6c) up and off the computer".

The problem is, the copper block between the fan and vent is stuck on what looks like a piece of black plastic on the left hand side. It allows the block to side forwards and back but won't allow me to lift it, I can only angle it up.

This is sooooooo frustrating. Anyone familiar with this issue able to guide me in the right direction?

Not to worry, I'm such a noob... Managed to get it out in the end by removing the top of the fan casing (held by 4 screws).

Glad you sorted it, though I don't remember having to take the cover off, I thought I just wiggled it a bit.
