Hello
Was wondering if anyone in Canada (especially Ontario) had ordered a Sager online from either XoticPC or someone else, and if so how smoothly did it go - any problems yet? Also how much tax/duty did you pay, and is there a shipping method you would recommend, or retailer?
I am looking to buy a NP9261 with Quad Cores and preferably SLI M8800's. Not much of gamer but I am looking at the 8800's for their number crunching abilities.
Thanks.

1. Tons of post about this here
2. Buy from Eurocom
This has been more than fully covered here ;-) -
I bought from XoticPC (and posted about it a few times); was an excellent experience. Very fast.
Wait till Dec 6th, since the 8800 GTX card is coming out then
When I researched prices, it seeemd cheaper to order from the US, but I didn't know about Eurocom (had assumed they wer ein Europe..). Theres no duty on import, but yes to GST, which was very pricey at the time

Eurocom is a ripoff, way over priced and they seem a bit dicey to - and I say that because they were offering 570RU with extreme mobile processors even though Clevo said it would damage notebooks due to heat output on the older models.
Skeezix: Is GST 14% of billed total on electronics in Ontario, and what would you recommend as shipping options. I am going to be waiting till after Dec 6th to order seeing as how the M8800 is going to require a mobo revision. Probably go with XoticPC for my order as well.
Does XoticPC offer discounts other than cash rebates to overseas customers? Wishful thinking probably
Thanks! -
if you guys find a way to not paying the gst... pm me

I wanted fast, with tracking and all that, so that pretty much meant FedEx, which was a pricey shipping option. I figured in the end, if I'm tossing away so much for a great notebook, I want it in one piece
FedEx goes through a broker so you will be hit by the works, which is the 7% GST. (14% is GST+PST, and you dont' pay PST IIRC.) I forget the details (new baby, cn't recall anythign) but I think it was an extra $150 or something for the GST (which sounds about right for 7%). So no duty, but shipping plus GST was a fair bit of Hello at the pickup
I like the Xotic approach, and I was sold when I called them on the phone and a real human picked up 3rd ring. Good prices, too.

yeah use xotic.. they will take care of you.

Dude Eurocom is probably your best bet for a top notch customer support and quick delivery. I am more than pleased with their service. Not with their price, but at least they can negociate. They will usually take a couple hundred $ hit instead of loosing a sale. That's sales 101 lol. BUT, tbh it will depends on who's your sales guy. Why not try them first?
They replaced an ODD and a mobo (and yeah a HDD - the week after the mobo replacement) for my 570U in no time and paid for shipping both ways. Be prepared for some funny shipping fees and delays if you have to return something in the US. My 2 canadian ¢. I'm not working for Eurocom; I just want people to see the other side of a low selling price. Nothing against xotic either as I bought them accessories - which Eurocom was sellin 2½ times the price. You just have to try to politely deal them frist. My m570u ended up being 150$ cheaper than Hypersonic, which was already cheaper than sager (last year).
Anyway, if you go with xotic, if you can, at least pick up UPS Worldwide Express. It's freaking quick, broker is included in the shipping charges and all you have to do is when you get your tracking number, give them a call and ask what's the total to pay (both taxes only). Looks like packages are literaly flying trhu customs with that option.
I ordered 2 digital cams from J&R (from NY), and I swear it was shipped the day before at 6PM and I got it before noon the next day. They charged both taxes. -
Mmmm yeah i will communicate with eurocom see if they can do the same price as... at least xotic... or even rjtech!
And! they offert the m571ru white!
and the best thing... no worry about anything... canadian law! oh well thx guys i think ill call them when more reseller will offert the 8800m so i can negociate something
If someone got a nice price from eurocom... plz pm me the detail -
Hello everyone
Thanks for the replies, input is greatly appreciated. I will probably go with RJTech or XoticPC, they seem to have more bang for your buck. RJTech is slightly cheaper than XoticPC but I wonder if you take a service hit there. I'll give eurocom a shout too, but I doubt they will budge on their pricing. I tried to get some sort of discount on the 570RU when I was looking at it back in September but they would not budge, in fact they didn't reply when I asked about student discounts.
There are several ways to cheat the tax system, but what's the point in doing something illegal - its a hassle and can get really messy if you get caught. Only legal way to beat the tax system is to actually pick up the merchandise in the US and ditch the packaging before traveling back to Canada.
I am a student but I work Co-Op for a major US car manufacturer and they've had us out to Dubai for two work semesters testing cars and automotive telemetric systems - there is not tax here on imported goods! I could save on tax by having it sent to me here by the 10th of Jan (which is when I head back), but I'll probably lose out real big on courier/shipping charges. In the end it will probably cost the same as paying the damn tax, or even more.
Thanks again everyone, if there are any resellers reading this your input on what your experiences have been in shipping to Canada and overseas would be most helpful. -

One other thing to look at is the sellers support hours. There are a couple of us sellers here on the forum that provide 24/7 Domestic Tech Support. Allot of sellers only offer support during business hours....
Just more food for thought...
P.S. Choosing the Express shipping option will save you a few extra $$. -
What is covered with the Express shipping option ?
I'll still have to pay both taxes right ? -
I ordered mine from discountlaptops.com, despite the good things I heard about Xotic. I shipped mine Worldwide Express and paid NO TAX AND NO DUTY. I also didn't pay for an operating system, so the final price on my system was under $2500 including shipping. It did take a while to ship (almost 3 weeks), but I think that was more Sager's fault than theirs to be honest. Would reccomend them, but from what I hear you can't go wrong with Xotic. Heard not much good about Eurocom to be honest.

So far I'm convinced to get from Xoticpc, planing the 5793, my config is about 1850 US
and if everyone says that duty is "skipped" through expedited S&H..
1850+87(SH) = 1,946.00(exact)+7% GST= 2082? (136 GST)
I just need someone to confirm this then I'm sold..of course I've been adviced to wait for Montevina to come out and the old hardware prices drop...so yea 2082 is not the final price.
But stil...is this what you guys mean?
