"If you find the equal of an M-Tech laptop configured the same for a lower price, M-Tech will meet or beat the competitors price. M-Tech can offer this service because we have already done the research and we know our prices are already the lowest on the market. So go ahead and spend your precious time to find out what thousands of M-Tech customer already know, nobody beats an M-Tech in price or performance.
The fine print: This means that it has to be the same ODM model with all the same features and support options. Most times after reviewing someone who claims to sell cheaper than M-Tech, we find that they are offering slower components or out of dates chipsets in the same chassis. M-Tech needs to be certain the product really is the same as our high quality unit before we can match or beat the price. "
ODM model would just be IFL90 right?
Hmm...just noticed MTech doesn't have 1440x900. Still more expensive though!

do these guys have the 5790 available w/ fingerprint reader right now?
-
According to their website, they have a canadian outlet, so ordering through them should theoreticly bypass customs. Ask first, though.
-
-
sent an email early this morning, but no reply yet...
-
I see their address in MI, and a distribution centre in CA...
After searching the "Canadian" phone number, I see it's just a number in the US and they redirect most of their calls there anyway
Anyway guess we'll see... -
the xoticpc store is a lot cheaper
seems like a hassle to convert CAD to USD, but CAD is so high right now. makes buying the sagar cheaper than a dell from dell.ca (anyone know the best place to convert currency?)
are the border duties just the normal tax? (like in bc 13%?) -
I'd say wait until Monday and call them, I know a lot of us are wondering what the deal is.
If they'll price match an identical model though, it would definitely be worth it to bypass customs.
And, to respond to "hmmmmm", border duties are a "brokerage fee" which means the cost to hire a broker to present your item to customs (UPS and FedEx use brokers, USPS does NOT, and a broker is NOT needed for such a simple shipment), as well as GST and PST (which is 6% + 8%). If you own a business you can apply for an import number (using your business number which you should have). This allows you to bypass the PST (8%) for commercial imports, very useful. -
I can actually get my laptop shipped to a friend in Blaine, WA., then bring it up and only pay the taxes. But if something ever goes wrong, with Xotic at least, you have to pay for all shipping costs there and back if it's international. And if you have to pay a brokerage fee every time, it gets even worse. Just for repairs!
So if something ever happened I'd probably have to go down to the States every time to send/receive the unit (to split shipping costs). Big hassle IMO :\ Having a Canadian outlet just makes things so much simpler... -
i'm a student and most canadian university don't have any deals with dell and such so that sucks major compared to US
notebooks costs so much in canada compared to US. desktops less so
and evidently i have no business
thx JPRT -
Yeah it seems like far too much hassle and risk to get a laptop from the states unless you're going to save well over 500$ ...so you can pay for the brokerage, taxes, any shipping for repairs.. etc
-
In terms of duty: if it is manufactured in the states, you will not pay any duty. If it is not manufactured in the states, you will. Some stores mark the product as "Made in China" (since technically it does come from there), so make sure you ask your reseller how they ship it.
If it is marked as "Made in the United States" then all you have to worry about is GST + PST (and the shipping cost of course). -
i wonder whether this
http://www.ncix.com/products/index....%2F90UL/KBUS&manufacture=COMPAL NOTEBOOKS
is the same compal ifl 90
it seems so and the barebone is so cheap (maybe it has no gpu?)
hopefully ncix will carry it soon -
Eurocom starts carrrying this unit in Mid August. They are in Ottawa
-
? I called them and they said they will not carry it
-
Eurocomm is a ripoff, and M-tech Laptops ships from the US, NOT from within Canada.
-
sigh! guess I'll see if I can make more money and grab a t61p...
-
They couldnt even find out what it was. -
Here's great news for Canadian fellows
I called UPS twice in different hours and spoke to 2 different persons from customer service of UPS how much broker fee gonna cost me if the goods shipping from United States to Canada. One UPS person told me I'll be looking at estimate $78us + GST/PST on $1400us goods while the other person told me it'll be $75us if shipping by ground, BUT the broker fee will be included if shipping by air!!!I guess there shouldn't be mistaking because I called UPS twice intentionally and two different persons told me broker fee is included in air fare but apparently broker fee is subject to change to groud shipping.
Ask your reseller to upgrade your shipping method from ground to air if they ship through UPS and you want to be in control of broker fee plus it ships faster.
Also ask reseller where is the laptop manufactured (how they mark it).
According to this link
http://canadaonline.about.com/cs/customs/a/shopshipcanada.htm
On most of items marked/manufactured in United States, there won't be duty
to pay for Canadians.
In PCtorgue they mark Sager NP2090 as manufactured in California so it's good to me. Also they have good service (fast e-mail reply in their business hours) and Steve (sale rep I talked on phone) was helpful and nice person to talk to. The only thing I need now is my Sager notebook arrives safely to me ;D -
Hey hirush, any update on your laptop? I want to order either an IFL90 or the NP2090...but am scared of the duty taxes and broker fee! I will going to college in the US in October so I need one pretty soon.
-
Hi, I'm among those waiting for WSXGA+ Sager 2090 as well. I won't be able to get the laptop till early~mid agust....
But the transaction went quite well with PCtorgue and as soon as my laptop arrives I'll post all the information regarding purchasing through US store
cheers~~
