Just wondering everyone's opinion on whether the cash discount is worth losing the extended warranty from Amex/Chase, especially since cash back would reduce the ~3% discount to ~2%...

I think the Chase doubling on warranties is the reason to even have the card. On top of that, they cover your purchase for 90 days. My little sister dropped her laptop, filed some claim forms, and got all the repairs paid for courtesy of Chase.

Oh yeah forgot to mention, the card that covered the cost of repairs is specifically Chase Sapphire, not just any old Chase card. Yours could be different, in either case I'd advise against doing what my sister did, hahaha, somehow it seems that younger siblings just don't baby their tech like they ought to.

Definitely not worth it. Not only is the extended warranty worth a more than the 1% difference between the discount and cash back, but also if you use a credit card and something like this happens to you, you have the option of doing a chargeback whereas if you pay cash, there's precious little you can do about it.

Yeah I have the Chase Sapphire, which is why I wouldn't buy the dead pixel guarantee... Hard to choose between a specced out P150HM vs NP5160, $1k difference, but the NP5160 won't be able to run everything I want to play on Ultra... and running some games on Low just isn't as fun...

That said, the 1.5 pound difference and longer battery life are huge draws since I will be carrying it with me all day 4-5 days a week...

I'd say it's not worth it neither for the reasons above...Does the extra warranty cover both parts and labor or it just doubles everything so you get 2 year parts, 6 years labor??

I just had a rental car claim on a trip where a hit and run driver caused about 300 dollars damage. My deductible was 500 so I was liable for all of it. Thanks to VISA/Chase and the rental car coverage, I paid all of $0 and have $300 more to spend on a notebook!

Didn't even know about it till my auto insurance denied me coverage.

If you buy from Mastercard they will only double the warranty if it is 1 year or less, otherwise you don't qualify. Make sure you call your credit card company and get the facts about extended warranties directly from them.
