Hey guys
I just got a new mSATA drive so I reinstalled Windows 7 on my Clevo P170EM. Win7 is SP1 and comes updated with all the latest. When installing the drivers for my 7970m I came across a weird issue: Catalyst Control Center will not work. If I launch it off the Start Menu, nothing happens. If I try to launch the Enduro switchable graphics thing, I get this error message:
Catalyst Control Centre: Command Line Interface has stopped working
With a lot more info attached (see bottom of post). A lot of googling hasn't produced anything (no two people can agree on the problem) but suggestions are: .NET Framework being wonky, a specific Windows Update package screwing things up (tried that one already, did not work), and adding a line to .NET's registry folder that didn't work either.
Any help? I'm at a loss. I've tried stock Clevo drivers, latest AMD drivers, several .NET versions and no luck. Anything will be welcome.
Thanks!

Update: it's settled. It was... *drumroll* Avast's fault.
It felt like a flashback to the 90's when I figured it out, but I reinstalled everything from Windows up except Avast and now all is well. Latest drivers, everything's working, but I need a new antivirus. Any suggestions?
I'm going to leave the thread alive in case anyone has similar issues. -
I also had a problem with the drivers from AMD (ccc). But in my case, the main cause of failure was incorrect driver installation order (AMD-> intel). Also couple of the last drivers from AMD in beta version, did not want to install at all.
And about av perhaps AVG -
AVG is too spammy these days, always prompting me to install web this and search that :/
What about MS security essentials? Is that any good? -

aw gawd no, MS security essentials is awful, especially when it comes to its detection rate
i can highly recommend qihoo 360 internet security, comes out on top of most antivirus reviews / comparisons, its got fast performance, low ressource needs and best of all: its freego ahead and check it out

I would suggest Avast.. used to use MSE but it's junk.. Avast is epic and has the least spam from all these free anti viruses...

Avast was the one he was having issues with...

Avast's decent enough for non-critical devices and acquaintances ... considering it's free, that is. Yet it also sees many false-positives, both with 'certain' apps as well as perfectly normal (often rare) applications. When in doubt about a certain file; don't trust Avast's judgement, do a metacheck first.
If you're willing to pay; Kaspersky's top-of-the-list with hit percentage and least false positives; they won't bother you with flagging perfectly fine, though shady, tools ... will definitely renew when subscription runs out. -
