How fast things are going! In the next couple of months, certainly before summer we will see 45nm notebook CPUs running a 1066MHz FSB they will be called Centrino 2.
Intel Montevina platform to be named Centrino 2

i cant wait to get one in quad core

*looks at profile picture* Why am I not surprised lol

lol i just changed it today from death note
i wonder if intel will make a better northbridge for this cpu them the pm965 -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
You would think with the faster bus that they would break away from the pm965. It's been around for a good while now, so...

lol. quad core would be awesome though. seeing as games will impliment them down the line. -

i think nvidia should come up with a laptop northbrigde -
how is june soon lawl... its feb
+ the speeds of the new processors suck 2.26-3.06GHz lameeeeeee.. get a cheap Santa Rosa now and upgrade it to a extrema 45mm in a year..
and DDR3 is price/performance unwise
in regard to quad core... i honestly think we will see 8threads in games before we see 4 (supreem comander/lost planet don't count if u research how they do it )... i'm sorry its just not a common standard... Its like building games for Duel CPU slot systems back in the day and "skulltrail now".. no dev would waste the time -
I think Nvidia should come out with a CPU already they have been hinting at it for years.

yeah but dual processing system came out in 2000 tyan was the first motherboard to support 2 cpu on the same mb. but we wont see that in laptops for a while. so i dont think game devolpers will optimzes games with that. plus they still cannt optimize the 8800 and dual core yet either
-
I think NVidia should come out with working hardware and firmware when/as promised, or else stop making promises they cannot keep. Oh yeah, they should also come out with an MXM "standard" instead of the current MXM "we hope vendors will at least think about it" wish-list. (Yeah, I know, not 'til pigs fly; however, one can always dream
).

Guys I have a problem: I'm a senior in high school, waiting to go to college (Fall 2008) and more importantly, a laptop (kidding). Seriously though, I'm thinking of getting an NP5793 with T9300 and 8800mgtx...
Should I wait until Montevina/Centrino 2 or should I get the computer within a couple of months. The reason I'm asking is because I'm not sure if (a) Sager will have a laptop with Centrino 2 or (b) Centrino 2 will be implemented in larger laptops, seeing as the platform seems to be mainly aimed at Small Form Factor Notebooks... -
I'm in a very similar situation as your own. Read this.
-
To sum up the entire thread Prasad007 linked...no. Games are becoming more and more gpu limited and unless you really play nothing but rts games your better off with a good graphics card.
-
Did I read that correctly? You are (all of the following):
(i) a senior in high school,
(ii) waiting to go to college (congrats!
), and
(iii) a laptop.
Or was that the point of the parenthetical? Some days I'm just more obtuse than other days.
-
Excellent find; I think I meant that I'm waiting to get a laptop. Or maybe I AM a laptop...you'll never know...
Thanks for the congrats
Prasad007 and bwhxeon: thanks, I've read the thread...just really anxious to get a laptop -

Very tempting indeed! But can't wait till June!!

These kind of threads are pointless. Informing people is no bad, but something like it's coming very soon or wait for it or whatever is totally useless.
If you want a laptop now buy it now, otherwise wait. You don't have to think much about it. Stop dreaming about new platforms and such when you have one right now. -
Yeah... true

That is your opinon to make. However, there are ones like myself that do plan a few months ahead for purchases, even though technology moves ahead real fast there is always a better time to buy than others if you are looking for a certain feature. What I posted is info of a MAJOR release and should be of interest ones on the forum.
-
thing is with computers and laptops, there's always something new around the corner, waiting is rather pointless i seem, might as well get something now, because by the time you got whatever you are waiting for, it'll be old.
-
centrino2 is fail... the top speed CPU is a unlocked 3.0gigs duel core...
no quads for another year at least... why bother waiting...
get a T9300 T9500 or X9000 it will all be the same power and price in the end... just that u will have to wait 4months + till its retail.
no game dev is going to have the balls to release a game that requires quad to be playable on PC for a long long time.. PC gaming is turning casual on hardware after horrid holiday sales. -
I find the T9300 the ideal processor right now.. will go for that.. the T9500 just cracks me up! Over the T9300, the T9500 costs $2 for 1 Mhz
Centrino 2 Montevina platform Very soon!
