    Hey all,

Just took all your advice and pulled the trigger on a new Sager np8660 laptop! Official order date is Thursday July 31st. I am rather excited!
    Specs:
    Core 2 Duo 2.5
    9800m gt
    4 gigs ram
    2 gigs turbo
320 gig hd at 5,400 rpm
    vista ultimate

    Total- $2300

What say you?!? Good build? I know that my battery life wont be that great, but I think it will be worth it, and it clocks in at about a grand cheaper than the AW that I was about to buy.
I opted for the 5400 rpm hd because I heard that it uses a little less power and increases you battery life by a tad. Dont really care if its true or not, its still a good placebo.
Looking forward to gaming on this puppy as soon as she gets here, and I'll be sure to post up a nice long review for everyone to read before they purchase theirs :p

And now we play the waiting game...

Everything looks pretty good, but I'd take out the 2gb turbo memory since that's a pretty useless feature. You won't seen any performance gain with it and in some cases would cause slightly poorer performance.

    nice config,congrats.
i was informed that after buying my m15x with 4gb of ram it would be a waste to get the 1gb turbo memory as it does nothing when using 4gb.
so as youve got 2gb turbo could anyone explain if that would be obsolite as well.

WHAT WHAT??! TURBO memory makes the computer... slower? What a country?! Are you serious? What a misleading title for a computer component.

The thing I really want to know is whether or not this machine will game as well as an AW m15x. I mean stats wise, yes, it should. But does anyone have any reassuring thoughts or pieces of info for me? I just dont want to buy the wrong machine, and I want this for games.

Sigh. Its not that it makes it slower. It makes boot up times and program start times faster, however, it has been discussed at length that it decreases performance during the running of certain applications.

What people need to realize is that Turbo memory in the new Centrino 2 platform is version 2.0 which is a significant improvement over the original version.

As you know Turbo Memory 1GB (Ver. 1.0) on the original Centrino systems was divided into 2x 512MB with 512MB to Vista Ready Drive, and 512MB to Vista Ready Boost.

It had its minor boosts under Windows Vista if it was used to Windows Vista spec.

With the launch of Intel Centrino 2, Turbo Memory got upgraded from Ver. 1.0 to Ver. 2.0 (2GB/4GB).

However only the 2GB module with driver version 1.6.1.1004 has been released.

At this time when the 2GB module is paired with the 1.6.1.1004 driver it will not show much of an improvement as it is being utilized just as Turbo memory ver. 1.0 was. (512MB to Ready Drive / 1.5GB to Ready Boost)

The true Turbo memory ver. 2.0 requires a driver software update that will be released by Intel, with the rough ETA of sometime in Q3 08.

Once this driver update is released you will then have a Dashboard with the option to select how the 1.5GB of space should be used between the following 2 options, Vista Ready Boost or Intel Pinning.

Intel Pinning will allow you to use the Dashboard to drag and drop your most used applications or files into the Turbo memory module (it is smart enough to not duplicate files already pinned. The whole Office 2007 suite will only take up about 600mb) and it will remain in the module, until removed from the Dashboard by the user.

This will make the 1.5GB space a mini SSD for your most used applications and from internal testing this has shown a great performance boost in the application load time for the applications that have been pinned.

It’s quite a great alternative to a Mini SSD drive for the cost! :)
