    Hey guys,

how can I change the GPU fan profile on my x7200?

I can't do it in MSI Afterburner, SpeedControl, HWinfo64 and Nvidia Inspector, it seems to be inaccessible.

The reason why I need to change it is, currently it starts 100% fan at 77°C. However, I am experiencing huge utilization drops (to 40-60%) as soon as my GPU hits 76°C for some reason. This only happens with the driver 35X.XX and onwards.

If I use 347.88 (a pre-Windows 10 driver) my utilization just stays fine, even when the GPU hits 77°C and starts the max fan. This driver is quite old and doesn't have any optimisations for recently released games though...

You can't. This has been the case for years with Clevo laptops (and other brands). The fan profile is automated per the EC firmware.

on more current models, u have some control over the fan profiles, although that is mostly dependant on the CPU temps...

True! The P870DM, for example, offers some control over the fan behavior via the Control Center application. Thanks for mentioning that, jaybee.

Good to know, yet my driver issue still persists. Any 35X.XX driver causes my GPU to drop utilization to 40-60% when it hits 76°C, which is why I actually wanted to modify the fan profile (to start max fan sooner).

Does anyone know an actual solution to it, or what might work?

I hate to be stuck on 347.88, it can't run Battlefront and is not optimized for Fallout 4 + Witcher 3 ...

What is your EC firmware version (listed in the Main BIOS page)?

yup, make sure u got both bios and ec updated to the most current version. also, a temporary solution could be to hit fn+1 for full blast fans to keep the gpu as cool as possible. maybe also do a fresh repaste and remove any dust accumulation inside the machine to help along keeping it below 76C...

    Thanks for your input guys!

I already updated to the latest BIOS/EC 2 years ago, it was necessary to run the GTX 680M in the first place. Yes, FN+1 works but also causes both CPU fans to run at 100% which wears them out unnecessarily, plus it's as loud as an airplane taking off. I repasted last weekend. Wifth FN+1 enabled, the card doesn't get hotter than 71°C, but that can't be the only solution... Seriously hope that Nvidia fixes this throttling, I mean 76°C is nothing and the max fan just activates at 78°C... This can't be intended.

I checked with @Prema and asked both him and Klem, so far they didn't reply so I assume it is not possible for them to help me by modifying the EC :( Finding the underlying "temp-throttle"-reason in the 35X.XX drivers is even less likely going to happen I guess.
But as there are a numerous issues for many people with drivers above 353.62, I can only hope that there is a chance that 36X.XX drivers will include a number of fixes, possibly making a change for me too.
