OCZ Freeze is one of the best, it's cheap, and isn't conductive. I just got some for the incoming qx9300, and I'll replace the GPU's grease for good measure.

Arctic Cooling MX-2 is the best thermal paste now better then Arctic Silver 5
others good paste with different names and marks are based on one of these two so the MX-2 is the best choise now

You guys (and gals) really should be buying barebones notebooks instead of fully specced machines.

It's such a waste of money to buy the notebook with a CPU, just to immediately replace it aftermarket, especially when you're spending and extra $150+ on the CPU it came with instead of just sticking with the P8600.

Well, sometimes you can recoup that investment (depending on when you decide to sell the laptop) by selling the laptop in the original config and plunking down the high end CPU on another laptop-

I myself have changed three laptops in one month (I just didn't know any better in the beginning, but eventually found this place and saw the light).

Another vote for OCZ Freeze. Drops the temps substantially compared to Arctic Silver.

if mx-2 and ocz freeze are so good, why do all these big resellers and stuff still use arctic silver 5?

Its also a known high end paste name that many recognize as a very decent thermal compound.

I must concur that Arctic Cooling MX-2 is the best of the best right now for thermal paste.

How much of a temp difference are we talking between the "best" and the "worst"? One or two degrees? Five?

IC Diamond 7 has been the best hands down by my tests. Compared to AS5 i saw average 7-10C lower temps with IC D7. You can purchase it from FrozenCPU. It's a local place to me so i don't have to pay shipping though :D
