    Hi,

I was wondering if it is worth replacing the artic silver 5 thermal paste on both CPU and GPU once I get my laptop.

I am thinking IC Diamond 7 Carat Thermal Compound will be the best one.

I found a very good website with reviews of many popular thermal paste

Anyone here planning to do the same? Is it worth the change? 5C does make a huge difference int he long term......

I wouldnt bother replacing it till the AS5 is degrading, usually takes a year before it needs replacement.

My CPU was running a bit hot when I got my 8662 recently and quite a few people mentioned that it may be the thermal paste so I went ahead and did it.

When this guy took it apart the CPU had very little paste applied which he
reapplied, the GPU had a decent amount but from what looked like another substance. Anyway, he replaced both and so far the results are:

CPU at idle are 10C lower and when under full load *earlier tonight only 5C cooler but later on is now about 8C cooler*
GPU at idle is now about 8C lower at idle and under load is about 2-3C cooler.

I was just unlucky I think because this model was just lying out of the factory so I guess it was a little rushed

Yeah, the preapplied paste on the gpu isn't as5, and I'm not even sure if the stuff on the cpu is... I'd replace them if I were you.

Is there a good "How To" guide around for removing the heatsink(s), removing the old paste and reapplying the new paste?

    :p

So I am getting my 8662 from Xoticpc. It says it has AS5. Do they put it on as the Sager website doesn't mention anything about it.
