I have a Sager NP8130. The AC adapter is not plugged into the laptop but the light in front of the computer and the windows taskbar icon indicate that the battery is charging.

What could the reason be. How to do i fix it?

think it could need the cmos battery removed and put back but not sure where it is on your model.

any idea how much charge your battery has. if not download battery care or battery bar from my sig below.
then try this. turn off and remove battery. press power button for about 20-30 seconds. put battery back and boot up and see if its still doing it.
if it is then i have no idea except for a cmos reset.

If you do try reseating the CMOS battery its pretty easy to get to on the NP8130. You just have to remove the keyboard then you'll see it off to the right of the RAM sticks.

I have tried both of what you mentioned MrDJ, didn't solve the problem.

The battery is not charging anymore either. It says still says charging even though power cord is not connected. Basically I have 79% charge left, not being able to charge it anymore.

Also if i remove the battery and connect it directly to the power point, no power goes through. Meaning the computer doesn't start up or anything because there is no power going through.

Have you got the chance to test it with another adaptor even if it's rated for a bit less than yours?

that sounds like a dead psu then but no idea why it would always show as charging. rma back to your supplier for repair me thinks.

If you can I would too, because a wonky charger should not make the machine think it's charging (unless a faulty unit has damaged the motherboard), using it like that could put excess strain on the battery.

Hmm, RMA is ideal (well, despite the turnaround time and shipment cost to you, if any). But it sounds like faulty PCM (printed circuit board). The charger may also be bad if the batter is not receiving a charge, despite the notifications on the laptop.

Have you tried disconnecting everything (battery, charger, USB devices; everything), leaving the unit off for a minute, and then trying ONLY the adapter or ONLY the battery?

    @ PROSTAR

I have disconnect everything, and tried with just the battery or with just the charger.

It does not turn on with just the charger, and with just the battery it says it is charging even though the charger is not connected to the laptop.

Does your PSU box light up? Is the power socket loose?

And you did this after a refresh, right (after leaving everything disconnected for a minute)? Hmm... make sure the adapter is receiving power and outputting the proper amount (you can use a multimeter/volt-ohm meter for this). It's probably going to need RMA; the wire or circuitry could be damaged/faulty.

@kevinmcg - The green light on the charger lights up fine.

    @PROSTAR
    Yes a proper refresh.

I have tried it in various other power sockets around the house. I have sent to it to manufacturer. I will post the outcome here.
