I remembered reading a while ago that there was a bunch of things you were suppose to do when you got your new laptop to make sure it's running to the best of it's ability. I thought I bookmarked it but I didn't. I forgot wehre I read it, might have been asus or compal forums, but I bought a sager so I"m posting in the sager forums. I don't mean it was a "what to do with your sager etc", I think it was what to do with a notebook in general. This would be my first notebook and really my first dedicated vid card, so I have no idea what to do with the drivers and such.

    Install a free Anti-virus, (I use Kaspersky)
    Install Firefox.
    Install Ccleaner
    Run Cclear
Install Thunderbird (if you use E-mail).

    ETC. ETC.

No it was stuff like, how/when to download drivers (I think that was on there). Something about getting rid of bloatware was also on there, so if anyone's seen this please let me know.

well isnt it basically download drivers if you need them, like the drivers for ur 56k modem, do you really use 56k these days? dont need to dl them, just disable them in ur hardware.

    how to download them?
go to the manufacturers website and download them. if its graphics driver, you can get tweaked nvidia drivers here
    http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers
or for ati, you can get the official at www.ati.com unless you wana search driverheaven.net for modded ati drivers.

how to get rid of crap on your computer, you can get some spyware cleaners(i prefer spybot). and you can use some tweaking programs to maximize your performance(just dont try to get some tweaking program and end up getting a spyware)

i wouldn't recommend getting an anti virus program if you know your computers because they install so much crap on ur computer that runs in your background like gay norton. last time i installed norton, it installed norton goback or somthing like tat and took up 10gb of my harddrive.

if theres things that you need to know, you can just ask and im sure people can answer.

Haven't seen a list; installed bloatware is likely to be different, depending on which company put the machine together. Most people who have a separate Windows disc usually just reinstall the OS, which is why you need to have all the drivers available beforehand. If that isn't an option, you can delete most of the junk yourself, with a little patience. This may help, but you can delete unwanted programs using uninstallers and Add/Delete in the Control Panel. Also, use msconfig to keep unwanted programs from starting, and services.msc to stop unwanted/unnecessary processes.

Edit: CCleaner is also very helpful when you're cleaning up the junk. Good luck.
