Im fixing a clevo and I have two options to upgrade the standard screen from CHi Mei 72% to a AUO 72% gamut non glare or 90% gamut but with glare.
I'd like to take the non glare but im reading mixed reviews about the AUO panels, even that the AUO is even worse then the Chi Mei!
Is the LG lp173wf1 a better choice then AUO as a non glare screen?

We honestly haven't had much complaints about any of the screens used besides the post MrDJ linked.
If it were me I'd go with the 72% matte, I just prefer the look over a glossy even if its a higher gamut. You really dont notice that unless you're doing alot of Photo or Graphics work. 72% NTSC will cover 100% sRGB which is what pretty much off of the net uses. It comes down to your preference and your computer use. -
I didn't know that when I purchased it. It isn't a big deal to me (I actually prefer not to have to deal with Optimus nightmares) but it may be to others. -

Good advice on the 120hz. Hawx79 which model are you fixing, as not all will support the 120hz.

I have the LGD02C5 panel myself (120hz matte) and its by far the best display I've ever seen.
It would be nice if it came with the 3D emitter though. I wasn't aware this was the screen they used with the 3D models, good to know that I just need to get a Vision kit.
But yeah, this screen is stellar. And no glare!joluke likes this. -

Image quality is about as subjective to sound quality: to each their own perception. We don't have any complaints on either the AUO or Chi Mei panels. Most people are pretty happy with either, despite the following LG has developed.

Don't know which one to choose! -
I have both those 2 auoptronics panels.
I originally bought the matte 72% panel and for 12 months was very contempt unaware there was better.
Then read here that there was a 90% gloss panel so ordered it and installed it.
Aside from the reflections the color punch factor creams the 72%matte version.
It's not so obvious until you use the panels for months to get a feel for them.
I have calibrated the colors too and the gloss is what has remained for the last 2 years and is the reference panel.
I still like the blacks on the Matte screen but will compromise that to get the color pop factor.
Hope this helps -
tron2^ I was hell bent on choosing the matte but now you made seriously reconsider it if glare is indeed as awesome as you claim.

Well consider the options study them well and make an informed decision.
I wasn't expecting a big difference but 90% v 72% color gamut is obvious to the eye and terrific in a darkened room without much light reflections.
Good luck. -

You may not have any buyer complaints on the Chi Mei panel, but I can assure you the Chi Mei panel is not as detailed/clear in dark areas as is the LG173WF1 panel. I just compared both panels side-by-side playing copies of the same commercial DVD, and I could see a significant difference in picture quality.

Reflections in a sunny room will be distracting no question about it.
However, color output and blacks and whites are impressive.
If you move the notebook so that the panel faces away from the windows you should be fine. Night time is where it shines. The whites are so white and bright they hurt my eyes...
Hope this helps.. -
I already got my B173HW02 v1, and it kinda sucks! I expected to be alot better. When looking close carefully I notice horizontal lines and black seems just colourless. But sometimes the matte does come in handy and other times I preferred to have a glossy like the B173HW04.
