Is Clevo Intel exclusive? I just watched the press conference and Ryzen looks promising.
So, I wonder if it's possible to see Ryzen CPUs in Clevo laptops cos that would be amaze balls!

this is a great question!!

Ryzen mobile CPUs come in Q3 2017 . It will be a while.

clevo can use also dektop cpu. raven ridge are mobile version of ryzen

It would be nice, but they would need to design a new laptop from ground up. I suppose they could offer a full AMD notebook with both AMD cpu and gpu, it might end up significantly cheaper than Intel + Nvidia. I would probably buy it.

65w of tdp are very low for an 8-core... -
-
-
intel k series cpu have 91w TDP
-
maybe the lack of m-atx motherboard is indicative that the process is not yet miniaturized/finished
-
-
Clevo is an odm so they could design their amd ryzen compatible mobo for the same case of intel cpu kaby lake compatible mobo imho.

They undoubtedly could and it would be a welcomed move. They could also add freesync to their AMD notebook to make matters all equal. But IMO it requires significant engineering. The model would need to sell rather well to make up for the R&D. If I were Clevo I would undoubtedly make an AMD line, otherwise suppliers such as Nvidia and Intel will always milk you.

I doubt that tb3 for egpu on p751/p775/p870 could be usefull because you could make the upgrade of gpu.
-
Who knows also what will go on behind the scenes. I hope Clevo think the market's big enough to offset the R&D. They didn't update the P570WM for Broadwell-E after all but I don't blame them not thinking there'd be many sales of utter price gouge $1000-$2000 CPUs. Still, Vega would be good enough.
I can't wait for the bloody reviews!! How the 4 cores overclock and what their power numbers are. I hope they're good, as a good efficient quad design will shake mobile right up by year's end and for perhaps the first time EVER we may see some decent AMD CPU powered notebooks instead of the scarce super budget rubbish of the past 5 years.
Last time AMD had a clearly superior processor (way in the olden days) Intel was doing all kinds of shenanigans behind the scenes to stop manufacturers like Dell and Gateway from using AMD chips, by the time the fines were finalised the damage was done though and Intel was rolling in cash - a real 'Smithers, my wallet' moment - hope history does not repeat, us customers have suffered from a lack of competition for far too long. -
I can (unfortunately for those interested) pretty categorically state that we will not see this happen, at least not this year.
This has nothing to do with Clevo and it doesn't have anything to do with the demand from other ODMs, the simple fact is that AMD does not/cannot put the rescources or manpower into supporting mobile ODMs i.e. laptop DMs, there's no differentiation here between an integrated and socket CPU laptop chassis. There have been some points made in this thread already that Clevo could do it if they wanted to; if AMD could support them then of course it would happen, but as you can imagine no ODM can manufacture a mobile factor mainboard to support Ryzen unless they have significant suport from AMD.
At the most, what we could see happen (and I stress very strongly the word COULD) is that AMD chooses one mobile ODM partner to work with - but by this I don't mean a Clevo, Quanta or Compal - rather an A brand laptop manufacturer. -
-
-
so the problem is if AMD would like to support an ODM. i think that a clevo p751/p775 with a cpu ryzen r7 8-core and a gpu mxm nvidia quadro p3000/p4000 or a fire pro (vega based) could be the best workstation!!
-
Well, the problem is that ODMs want the support but it's not available.

I really hope we get to see Ryzen in Clevo-notebooks before the end of the year
Intel has reigned to long now!

I can only echo my previous comments, which are that it seems highly unlikely that we will see any Ryzen in a mobile platform this year. The only possibility is that AMD decide to work with maybe one brand, but this would be one of the bigger players such as a Dell, HP etc who don't use Clevo as an ODM partner.bennyg likes this. -
ok thanks for your answers.
i can understand...

Well, maybe not without any help, but nothing more than any other desktop motherboard designer/manufacturer. The fine print is that clevo has to deal with a few mobile parts, which is entirely up to them. I'm pretty certain that this is the case. Or it was. Have you noticed that recently the releases are not that far behind from a "generation" announcement, so maybe they are operating more closely.

I'm sure it's not completely impossible from a technical standpoint.

You want to go outside of intel specs? You can, but be prepared to get no engineering support and certainly less offers for discount pricing etc which will price your machine out of the market.
-
It's been a while since I had an AMD computer. It wasn't reliable as I thought and had issues with it. I don't know how they are now, but hopefully their Ryzen becomes a success and make it equal or better than Intel.

The stability will be down to the motherboard usually and AMD boards are usually cheaper.

Is that what happened with Clevo LGA machines? -

If what he says is correct, it means that MSI are working on a Ryzen laptop. An SI can't do this, an ODM can.
-
yes great news!!

Oh heck yeah. I'm down for it.
