    Hi

    Ive got a Clevo 170hm with a 6990M. Windows 8.1.

Now when i try to enter windows i get black screen or different kind of colors.

This only happens when i try to enter windows the normal way.

I can enter windows in failsafe (f8) mode.

I have uninstalled gpu driver but that didn't change anything.

I only get black screen when i try to enter windows. I got screen in bios.

I have put the ssd with os installed in another computer and it starts perfectly. So that means the problem is not within the os ?

    Thanks in advance !

Sounds like driver corruption or windows corruption to me. BIOS/safe mode doesn't load the drivers for the GPU, so you should be using the bare card. If that works your card should theoretically be okay... but using the OS in a different machine and having it working appears to be odd.

Maybe your card gets the problems if it clocks up? I don't know. It could be a dying GPU.

We have heard quite a few people have luck baking the 6990M, but only do so if you're comfortable doing so.

are you getting lots of lines down the screen. if so its a dead or dying gpu.

can you post a picture of the screen for everyone to see as that would give everyone a better idea.

If the picture/lines don't fluctuate when you move the screen around, this it is the 6990M on its way out. Their failure rate is fairly high.

The baking method is the poor man's way of reflowing the card. It's hit or miss, and is your last resort before either buying a new card or a new laptop. :(

If you still have warranty, send it to the next Clevo repair center! They replaced both my 7970m after I had a very similar problem for free (I had 1 month of warranty left - its usually 24 months). Note that the clevo warranty is a 24 months warranty on the production date. You can usually find a date code on your battery. Thats usually 2-3 months before you actually bought your PC, depends on the reseller though.

sadly this is not always true. it totally depends who you bought it from and what that reseller offers as a warranty.
my supplier has a standard 2 year warranty which covers everything but there are a few in the uk that vary quite considerably.
i always advise to upgrade the warranty anyway as the price of parts can be very expensive to replace.
