    Hi all,

I'm in the market for a new dev machine in the next 6 months or so and am particularly interested in the 20" models I've seen from Dell, HP, and Clevo. My problem is that none of them are configured with the components I need/want.

Does anyone know when Clevo will upgrade their M590KE to a Santa Rosa chipset and DX10 GPUs? My internet research has yielded precious little information thus far.

(Also if anyone here has any information about future Dell M2010 upgrades, that would be helpful as well. I've contacted Dell support a few times, but they never have any information "at this time").

    Thanks in advance all!

BTW, this is my first post on these forums, but I've been reading for quite a while now and have been impressed by the level of knowledge and maturity displayed here. It seems increasingly difficult to find good online discussion groups that don't degenerate into flamewars and fanboyism.

    Cheers!

HP Pavillion HDX is an option (Santa Rosa + HD 2600XT GDDR3)

    15 lbs though

Yeah the HDX looks like a nice 20", unfortunately it has the ATI chipset and it would be more convenient for me if it had an nVidia GPU. I need to run the nVidia PerfHud (shader profiler) and while it doesn't currently work with notebook drivers, nVidia is apparently working on support for it. Unfortunately ATI's developer toolsets are years behind nVidia.

That's not necessarily a deal break though, as I could keep a desktop around for profiling. Does anyone know when the HDX will receive the promised resolution update from 1680x1050 to 1920x1200?

    Thanks again

Well before you buy, just know that the Clevo only hits around 6500 in 3dmark06. I do have this laptop and I wish I had the D900C/D901C. People say the D900C is heavy but you don't know massive until you hold the Clevo M509KE.

lol, well said. I was hoping Clevo was planning on either switching the M590KE to Intel chipsets or were coming out with a new 20" model. I guess it doesn't sound promising on that front.

Ah, that's good information to have about the 3DMark score -- I thought the 7950 GTX would perform better. Either way it would be useless to me as I need to have a DX10 card for work. The D901C does look like a great machine -- 17" is nice, I was really hoping for a 20" beast though. :)

Yeah....I wished my M590KE was a beast. I thought it would be much better since it even costs more than the D900C.
