There seems to be a lot of confusion around, so I thought I'd come out and ask.
Apparently in Clevo 570U and earlier Clevo used a proprietary slot, where in the current round (the 570RU) they use an actual MXM slot. (MXM-IV?)
As I understand it, NVidea only defines the spec and makes the core chip, the actual manufacturers like Clevco still produce the expansion boards so its almost moot if its proprietary or not, as long as it provides the same spec (size, wattage, etc.)
Or in theory, if its a true MXM slot, is it possible to slot in cards from other manufacturers? (ie: A dell MXM card in a Clevo MXM slot?)
(Really, this is all beating around the bush until we see from Clevo if there will be an 8800, but still![]()

if the card is compatible it will fit yes.
but look at the fact that the 8700 for the d900c is diffrent from the m570ru -
As long as the interface will meet the spec and it is feasible to make the manufacture has the choice to make the card or not. Meaning if the interface will meet the thearmal, bandwidth, size and power needed to run the card the manufacture can make the card for it. In the case of taking an MXM card from a dell and using in a Clevo it would have to be the same type card. But also note that dell (as well as others) will sometimes add information in the bios of their cards preventing it from running on other machines.

True enough, so BIOS is something else to add to the list of requirements.
Is the Clevo M570RU MXM-IV slot compatible with MXM-1/2/3 as it shoudl be? Or is it a custom MXM-IV (not quite compliant) as some people suggest?
(Due to Clevo switching from the 570U to the 570RU, there is a lot of confusion. Me included

Dell doesn't use MXM as far as I kno..
-
I could be wrong on this but I thought the only MXM-IV out right now was the 9260/1.
-
Yay, 8800M available from Sager.
Yes, the two new Clevo's have MXM-IV. -
Cool, I wasn't sure and my internet is slower than dail up right now. not cool
-
Dell was just an example for 'what if' sake. Just wanted to clarify on the MXM compatibility.
Gophn -- confirmed that Sager is going to manuf an 8800M? I need to find the thread here.. is it MXM-2 or 3? As long as it fits into my M570RU I won't have to commit hari-kiri

Currently they are saying it will work in the 9260/1 with Gophn's input that means it should work in the 570RU as well. The pre-order date is set for 6 Dec. Justin@XOTICPC says more info then for upgrades as well. From some other sites it will be MXM-III and MXM-IV.
-
The M570RU and D901C will have the 8800M GTX module in MXM-IV... which should give it more headroom for OC'ing as compared to other lower MXM modules with power caps.

I guess, Yes it will be upgradable to a superior GPU -
Yes. it is.... gotta love MXM
-
because ill get this laptop only if i can upgrade for a 8800m later next year...
Thanks a lot for your anwser! -
dude, no one can bet their mom on upgradeability to card that is not yet available..there are HUGE chances that both D900C and m570RU will accept 8800m GTX/GTS, but nothing is 100% sure yet
however, knowing Clevo I'd say you have nothing to worry about -
Clevo 570RU _is_ MXM standard, or no?
