    Hi all,
Does any1 knows if my Clevo 735U allowed to upgrade its DX9 graphic card (e.g. 7950gtx) to any DX10 cards in the near future?
    Thx!

    Welcome to Notebook Review.

Perhaps. The notebook is based on the Clevo M5750U chassis, so it supports a modular graphics card. If that is the case, then when Clevo release a newer DX10 card, then it should be compatible with your notebook. However, it is still possible, they make a change to the form factor, in which case, you will need to investigate if the card is still compatible.

Possibly, but the major concerns when changing video cards in laptops is compatibility with a feature that never quite caught on (MXM was not designed to allow upgrades), and heat output as well as power draw.

    hi all,
I just got a reply from the Clevo supplier (IT Channel) in Australia. And they say:

"Thank you kindly for your enquiry. At this stage, it is impossible to tell whether the 735U will have the DX10 graphics cards available to it in the future. Santa Rosa (Core 2 duo 800Mhz) is around the corner and that might mean a completely different motherboard reivision or notebook. At the same time, it is also possible but to promise you that it will happen with be a pitch at trying to get a sale rather than telling you the truth".

    cheers!

    hi all,

A reseller (p4laptops) of Clevo laptop in Australia replies me the following answer regarding the graphic card upgradeable issue. And their reply:

"Yes, as a PCI-Express Laptop, you will be able to upgrade to other chips in
the future. However, the 7950gtx is the latest and best GPU for notebooks at
present, and from my understanding shouldn't have any compatibility issues
    with DX10".

    cheers!

They reply from p4laptops is just plain wrong.

You had better take the answer from the first vendor as truth.

There are all kinds of issues that will prevent the 735U or any Clevo model from accepted a later video card. The most obvious are motherboard revisions, heat and power required.

The only real answer is that until the newer card is released and tested in any model you simply do not know whether it will work or not.

The next generation video cards will most probably require motherboard revisions, a more powerful thermal solution and a more powerful AC Adapter.

"Unfortunately the answer is no. This unit doesn't allow for upgrading to DX10".

    cheers!

I would not go with that answer just yet.... especially it being definite.

Give it til Summer/Fall 2007, then you will know.

I am really feeling that a hybrid 7900/7950 GTX that supports DX10 should be out by that time. Reason being that the 8800 is going to take a lot more work to bring the technology into notebooks.
