    Clevo 7970M moddded pcb.

    Hi, ive got a secondhand 7970m and its came whit this "mod", i was wondering was that mod is supposted to do? Why its stacked ? I didnt test is yet due to not sure its working condition.

    Probably a shanted pcb to avoid throttling. Those cards are a bit famous for throttling so I'm thinking it's that

    So, its for oc , maybe a mod to capable of 8970m or m290x bios?

    All clevo 7970m had a 2nd layer of 4 core caps poorly hand soldered on from the factory. They overclock much better than Dell cards.

    These cards did not have power throttle issues. 7970m only starts to touch its power limit if you overvolt it to 1.225V, which you can do with Trixx with a modded nospheratu/slv7 vbios.

    Do not even attempt to flash an 8970m vbios. It won't work, and even if it did the memory clocks would become locked, and the power limit would be reduced. There is no reason to ever try this.

    That card was oven baked to repair it at some point.

    Thanks , I have a very baked 290x that came whit a gx70 ,this card not shows it was baked , the pcb looks ok for me .

    The first batch of 7970m cards had bulked up hand soldered capacitors as the first batch had too little capacitance for all situations. This was found before shipping. These tend to be the most compatible cards.
