So I briefly remember reading about this laptop having a self upgrade option from the 260m. What can I upgrade to? 280m? 285m? Which exact mxm size do I need?
And will the cards simply be replaced in the standard heatsink that came with the lappy?
Thanks in advance, and rep to the person that helps the most!

Your laptop uses the older 2.1 MXM slot. Not the newer 3.0b cards as used in the latest high end laptops.
Officially the GTX 260M is the strongest card it can run. Many have been able to run both the Geforce "GTX 280M" and the Quadro 3700M but the M860ETU wasn't built to run these perpectually. This can be overcome with some extra cooling and little technical know-how.
I believe you can use the same heatsink though as always, it's good practice to replace the thermal pads. -
Tbh, I wouldn't upgrade the video card unless its broken and you need to buy a new GPU in any case. The GTX 260M should be able to run almost all titles with highest settings in 1680x1050. The GTX 280M will give you a few more frames but considering the high price you'd have to pay for this upgrade ($665.00 on RJTech) it makes more sense to just save the money for your next laptop.
