THIS THREAD IS FOR CLEVO MODELS WHICH ARE NO LONGER IN PRODUCTION AND ARE RELEASED BETWEEN 2012 - 2014.

This thread has the BIOS and EC for the following models:
    P170EM (Sager NP9170)
    P150EM (Sager NP9150)
    P151EM (NP9130)
    W110ER (NP6110)
    W150ERQ (NP6165) & W170ER (NP6175)
    Clevo P570WM / P570WM3

FOR OLDER CLEVO MODELS (RELEASED BEFORE 2012) WHICH HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED AND THUS NO LONGER RECEIVE BIOS UPDATES YOU SHOULD CHECK THIS THREAD: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/556299-clevo-bios-older-models.html

Before reading this thread, please know that this thread should not exist in the first place. While the option to email your Clevo reseller and ask for the latest BIOS is considered now the official policy of obtaining the latest BIOS, it should be noted that Clevo is the only major notebook manufacturer that has such a policy. My opinion alongside that of other users which have posted in this thread is that a reputable notebook manufacturer like Clevo should make BIOS updates publically available.

    *DISCLAIMER*

IF YOU HAVE A FRIENDLY CLEVO RESELLER THAT CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH THE LATEST BIOS I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU TO GET THE BIOS FROM HIM RATHER THAN FROM THIS THREAD.

IN CASE YOU MANAGE TO BRICK YOUR MACHINE BY TRYING TO FLASH YOUR BIOS I HOLD NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR SUCH AN OUTCOME. BY PROCEDING TO DOWNLOAD ANY OF THE BIOS POSTED IN THIS THREAD AND UPDATING YOUR SYSTEM BIOS AND KBC/EC WITH SUCH A BIOS YOU AGREE TO THIS RULE.

How do I flash the BIOS ?

First you need to get the latest BIOS, generally you should do this by emailing your reseller for it. IF this is not possible then you can still download it from this thread. The BIOS comes either as an ISO or as an archive. The BIOS is made of two parts, a system bios and an EC/KBC.

The latest BIOS will always contain all the updates of previous BIOS releases.

ALWAYS UPDATE THE EC/KBC FIRST AND THEN THE SYSTEM BIOS.

    How to update:

Method I (using a USB stick)
If the bios is an archive then this is what you need to do:

    1. Make a bootable USB stick using zfactor's guide available here: how to flash your bios with dos using a usb stick:
(Alternatively you can make a bootable CD).
    2. If you have the BIOS and the EC/KBC files in separate archives or in separate folders, copy them to the USB stick but keep them separate, don't mix their files in the same folder. If they come in a single folder/archive then copy them as they are, in a single folder.
    3. Now restart your laptop and boot from the USB stick.
    4. If all goes well you should now be in DOS mode. Type "dir" to see the folders you have on the USB stick. Now navigate to the folder where you have the EC/KBC files, type "cd <folder name>" to get inside the folder.
    5. Once you are in the folder with your EC/KBC files, type "update.bat". If you have your EC/KBC files in the same folder with the rest of the BIOS files, then type "step1.bat" or "updateEC.bat".
    6. Wait for the system to be flashed, it should reboot automatically once it is done. If it does not, then give it some time, make sure the system has finished the flashing otherwise you will brick your laptop.
    7. Once this stage is complete, boot again from the USB stick.
    8. Navigate to the folder where you have your BIOS files.
    9. Type "update.bat" to update the BIOS. If you have your EC/KBC files in the same folder with the rest of the BIOS files, then type "step2.bat" or "updateBIOS.bat".
    10. Wait for the system to be flashed, it should reboot automatically once it is done. If it does not, then give it some time, make sure the system has finished the flashing otherwise you will brick your laptop.
    11. Your Done.

Method II (using an ISO file)
If the BIOS you have downloaded is an ISO file.

    1. Burn the ISO to a CD.
    2. Now restart and boot from the CD/DVD.
    3. If all goes well you should now be in DOS mode. Type "dir" to see the folders you have on the USB stick. Now navigate to the folder where you have the EC/KBC files, type "cd <folder name>" to get inside the folder.
    4. Once you are in the folder with your EC/KBC files, type "step1.bat".
    5. Wait for the system to be flashed, it should reboot automatically once it is done. If it does not, then give it some time, make sure the system has finished the flashing otherwise you will brick your laptop.
    6. Once this stage is complete, boot again from the CD.
    7. Navigate to the folder where you have your BIOS files.
    8. Type "step2.bat" to update the BIOS.
    9. Wait for the system to be flashed, it should reboot automatically once it is done. If it does not, then give it some time, make sure the system has finished the flashing otherwise you will brick your laptop.
    10. Done

!!!In the attention of all Sager users!!!
For the Clevo models P170EM (Sager NP9170), P150EM (Sager NP9150/NP9130), W110ER (NP6110) as well as any other CLEVO model using the same generation chipset and/or CPU, it is strongly recommended that you keep to a Sager branded BIOS, therefore just email Sager if you want a BIOS update, they will email you back with the latest version. The reason why this is recommended is because, while you can flash a vanilla Clevo BIOS on a Sager laptop, trying to flash back to a Sager BIOS MIGHT BRICK your laptop and you will have to pay to have it
    fix.

There is a method however that might allow you to flash a Sager BIOS over a Clevo one, but this method is very risky and should only be used if absolutely necessary. More here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/675141-clevo-bios-sager-bios.html#post8678736

It is not recommended to downgrade any Clevo/Sager BIOS to any previous version. Any such attempt might brick your laptop.

For P series notebooks, updating to a Windows 8 BIOS might require users to update first both the EC and BIOS to at least version 1.00.04. Users having older EC/KBC and BIOS versions should not attempt to update to BIOS/EC versions 1.02.xx.

Hey, i've not done a bios update before, i am pretty worried about doing this lol. Basically i bought a laptop from pcspecialist.com, as long as i have had it, it's been getting too hot on a lot of games and it only gets worse. On PCspecialist the laptop was called Vortex III. It isn't on there anymore as it was removed in place of Vortex IV now. I spoke to pcspec through email three times now and every time they just ask the same questions, i explain and say i want a bios update. Then they just stop replying to me and ignore the emails. On DxDiag, my system manufacturer is listed as CLEVO. and my BIOS part says BIOS: BIOS Date: 04/23/12 14:00:30 Ver: 04.06.05, I'm just confused as to what BIOS to download from here, my system model is a P150EM, reading the part about sager and CLEVO being basically the same is what is confusing me and i don't know what BIOS i should be grabbing. My GPU is a Radeon HD 7970M, i want to get the BIOS update to unlock the fan control. Sorry that this message is really long winded, just getting confused as to whether i am getting sager, clevo or whatever. Thanks guys.

You look on the back of the laptop or you go into BIOS. It writes there somewhere.

    I own a P170EM running the 1.00.04 BIOS and the 1.00.05 KBC/EC firmware.

It runs absolutely fine, so I'm wondering if upgrading to the newest BIOS will do anything positive for my machine? The posted release notes are close to useless, but the "Modify fan table" entry sounds like it would improve the cooling system.

Is upgrading worth the hassle? Will I be able to go straight to EC/KBC v1.02.12 and BIOS v1.02.17 provided I flash the machine in that order?

Do you find the fans annoying? Are they kicking in when they should not?

If you have no issues leave it, maybe you wont like the new fan profile as much.

    Hi i have a w110er with EC/KBC V 1.02.07 & BIOS V 1.02.11

My question is once i update the ec to V 1.02.09 i don't have to reupdate the bios v1.02.11 ? Since i already have it, right? Thanks for any good replies

The fans do make an awful lot of noise compared to every other PC or Mac I've used, but I guess that comes with the territory of owning a powerful laptop like this. I'll leave it alone. Thanks.

Spot on, they are made for performance which needs proper cooling. For quiet or great battery life they're not the way to go but for gaming they're tough to beat.

    Hey guys.

I'm also getting the PDR GBE region and error 25 message. You said that the password was required, but where do I input this password? Once this error comes up, I get the command prompt for the bios directory only, and there is nowhere to input the password.

I've updated EC to 2.12, and now trying to update the bios to 2.17. I have tried to update the bios to 2.14 instead, but get the same error message.

I've also tried the link you posted above for mega.co.nz, but either the link is broken and doesn't exist, or I'm unable to access the web page.

Any help would be appreciated so I can update my bios to 2.14 or preferably 2.17.

    Thanks. :)

I've read every single word of the initial post more than once, and again after reading your reply, to make sure there wasn't something I've missed. There is no mention in the instructions, how to flash using USB stick or ISO, any of the warnings etc, or anywhere else in the initial post.

I'm worried again you'll send another reply saying 'check the initial post'. Hopefully you can understand my frustration in both reading that, and not being able to find the information you're referring to.

You wouldn't have that problem at all with the files that Blacky linked here:

    Thanks Prema... Much appreciated

I didn't realise Blacky was referring to the Clevo Bios thread for the new models. Also, I didn't worry about the meset step since the bootme files were originally for the me system, which was displayed when the USB stick loaded under dos.

My fault, and I apologise for it. Thanks again for your help.

Just want to verify that http://blacky.bestmail.ws/CLEVO BIOS/P170EM/P170EM_EC12S.7z is the correct link to "Sager EC/KBC V 1.02.12 Last SAGER EC and BIOS for NP9170"

I flashed them and am still seeing 1.00.11SA as my EC even though my BIOS is now being listed as 1.02.17LS1

Can I use the Clevo EC with the Sager BIOS?

    I flashed Prema's latest mod and now I am showing 1.02.17PM v2 and 1.00.11PM

Pretty weird that I can't get my EC to post as 1.02.12 is this something that all NP9170's do?

The one it lists in the bios thread should be fine.

As for prema, if you really need something doing you could email him about hiring him for dedicated time to a project.

So I just got a new Sager NP9150 (Clevo P150EM) in the mail. I'm going to swap out a few components from my old one and sell it.

This new one has BIOS v14 and EC v11. Is there any need to actually upgrade to BIOS v17? Also, what about the PREMA BIOS? Is that highly recommend instead?

If you are happy with your laptop as it is, you can leave it as it is. If you want to go crazy with it and push it to the limits, you will need Prema's mod. :D
