    Clevo CeBit releases?

I wanted an X8100 last year but due to various reasons decided to cancel and wait for a proper Sandy Bridge based power Clevo notebook. Now that CeBit is about to start (tomorrow?), is there any word on a refresh for either the X7200 or the X8100? I haven't been impressed with the 8130/8150/8170 released thus far and am looking forward to customising a Sandy Bridge laptop with either a top-end Nvidia 5-series card or AMD/ATI 6xxx GPU(s).

Am I asking for too much or will something good be announced over the next few days? How long does it take for the released models to enter the market?

this is all it states in on the clevo website:

"CLEVO is the best professional notebook computer manufacturer for distributors, and also one of the world’s most preferred OEM/ODM partners.
At CeBIT 2011, CLEVO will present a series of our Notebook PCs ranging from entry value to high performace. Please visit to find out how CLEVO can proovide solutions to meet your business needs."

Other forums have been discussing the possibility of refreshes for the popular pre-SB notebooks like the X7200, I was simply wondering (the official announcement aside) whether there was any other news regarding upcoming models and their possible release.

I've yet to own a Clevo and am unfamiliar with their business practices however they're top of my list for a new laptop and I'm hoping to make the best informed decision possible before purchase.

^^ This is the standard announcement from Clevo at any big event (CES, CeBit, etc) and it doesn't necessarily mean there will be new models showcased. It's unlikely that we'll see the X7200's successor at this time. E-series of SB processors will be released close to the end of 2011.

We may see something new in the 18.4" category to replace the phased out X8100. Anyway, next week should shed some light, stay tuned. :)

I don't need processor overclocking so the X8100 refresh would be somewhat ideal (I still have to figure out the best backpack to house the beast).

Is it standard practice for all of the new Clevo models to NOT deploy an ExpressCard slot? I rather like my Creative X-Fi soundcard and was hoping to get the newer model on a refresh, but the 81xx models all seem to drop the slot.

I've seen that a lot of new laptops including Clevo are going without the ExpressCard. ViDock might be the reasoning for this. I can't help but think the subtext for this move would be "Why allow users the ability to add on something to a laptop when they could just buy a new one"?

From what I understand big announcements are to be expected at Cebit, but not necessarily for anything coming this quarter.

What? No Express Card slot ? You mean the P170HM doesn't have one ?

Apparently not as well as P151HM and the P150HM. I had to sell my X-Fi PCIe away for my upcoming laptop...it was a good investment while it lasted (switched to the USB version after).

That'd be sweet! You could go get some of the free swag I'm sure is there, give us info from clevo (all it talks about on the CeBIT wesite for them is some batteries. Which I suppose are more for them then from then..). And you can harass the people working the intel booth :p

I'm not fussed about backlit keys, it's probably a matter of playing Typing of the Dead a bit more if I really can't see in the dark. I suppose we'll all find out in a couple of days time whether any new models are ready for retail for the next quarter.

That thing is ungodly huge. That'd be to my 8150 like my netbook or even my XPS are to my fiances 17.8" Qosmio. that is, they can both almost sit side by side on her keyboard..

I wonder if it's even possible to pack more power into the 8150 with current tech than it has. With that 18.4 inch, you could almost start stuffing it with desktop grade stuff even as far as GPU's

Ever configured the X8100 before? Apart from the Desktop CPUs of the time, everything was generally the same as 17.3" configurations. The day desktop GPUs are installed into notebooks the very concept of the notebook itself becomes obsolete.

Except.... desktop GPUs are just growing and growing in size, lol. But I do agree, it would be nice to have without going to some crazy viDock setup to run it. :)

There's been word on Bulldozer for year. AMD has been talking about it since 2008. They set a tentative release date for 2010, but that obviously passed.

Current schedule shows it being released in desktop models by the end of this year, laptop by 2012

Looks like speculation in the owner's forum was somewhat correct.

I'm interested in whether they kept an ExpressCard slot on the refresh, if the new model really is just the old X8100 with a SB upgrade.

Damn, that just rendered my ExpressCard soundcard obsolete. I'll probably be looking at the USB-based options for my next order then. Does the new model still have 2 USB 3.0 slots and 2 USB 2.0 slots? I doubt Clevo will "do an Apple" and introduce Thunderbolt (Light Peak) straight away.

Lookin for more information on the P180HM x7200 refresh.
I'm ready to get a new notebook and the x7200 doesn't have the 5 Series Nvidia nor does it have the Second Gen i7.

I'd like to see what version of the 5 is in the P180HM and what the notebook looks like.

There's no high end 5 series of Nvidia cards at this time. Neither there's a x7200 refresh. You can expect those around Q4 2011.

So far the only Clevo-related announcement at CeBit has been the addition of more powerful non-SB CPUs for the X7200? The 81xx series seems to be the latest Clevo model for the next few months by the looks of it.
