Time for a new laptop and I was wondering about these 2 models of clevos, mostly heat issues. I travel 90% of the time and I game 99.9% of my time on my laptop. In the last 5 year I've tried everything from a Sony Vaio GRT360
to Alienware 7700 (clevoD900T) Both have been total nightmares heat wise.

My Vaio 5 mobo's in the first year alienware 3 mobo's in the first year and half, in fact I still have a year left on my alienware warranty but alienware refuses to repair instead they have me sending it to lansing,mi now.My last repair took over 4 months. So I'm done with alienware laptops. Alienware builds great desktops. I have an "OLD" Area 51 I got 7 year ago I still chug away on. So I'm not knocking alienware for u AW fans.

Obviously for sheer performance in gaming, that D900C will blow the M570U away.

On the other hand, it'll also run a lot hotter than the Executioner, have less battery life, and probably isn't something you'd want to keep on your lap. You say you travel 90% of the time and game 99.9% of that time...if that involves long extended periods of time without a power outlet, you might find yourself running out of battery quite a lot on the D900C.

Maybe you can put your purchase off till the M570ru is available? It's just around the corner and will give a better gaming experience, while possibly having slightly better battery life since there are some new technology changes in the Santa Rosa stuff..

This might be a good "medium" between your two systems of choice.

Yup, I'd also go for this. The D900C is not your usual carryable laptop. Neither the m570u is, but it's a little bit lighter. But yes, the D900C is not the fastest lappy in the world for nothing ;). Looks like an incredible machine. Heat will definitely be an issue if not used on a plane surface.

If you intend to do anything but watch your wallpaper on a M570U, you better get used to some ball busting heat on that sucka.

I'm typing this on a M570U sitting on my lap, and my freakin' legs are getting a scorching.

I keep my M570U on pretty much 24/7 (I'm a bitTorrent addict), and it runs HOT. All the time. The only way for me to cool down the laptop enough not to have it feel hot (not warm...HOT) is if I place the laptop in front of the cool air blast from the AC. Kinda of an expensive way to cool it down.

The underside of this laptop is just ridiculously hot. If you're running games on it that use the hard drive, the graphics card and the CPU heavily all at the same time, expect to have some serious heat issues.

There's just no way around it.

I know bit torrent's keep your HDD in a constant panic attack, but you still shouldn't have a heat problem unless you are blocking the vents from doing their job when it's placed in your lap.

I think that's why there has been such a change from "laptop" terminology to "notebook computer", they wanted people to stop using them in their lap's.

I know I saw an article a while back that talked about the heat caused by using a notebook in your lap is capable of causing problem with virility.. =P

    lol...

Hey, to add my 2¢. I noticed that heat depends a lot on the surface the laptop is sit. At the office I was wondering why my whiny fan was always running, even when only doing Office stuff. The desks there are made of a melamine like material that doesn't dissipate heat at all. When I put my hand under the lappy the table is quite warm. Then what happend is the air is pulled in from the bottom and you don't get fresh air inside but warm air. The more warm air there is the more the fans spins and it slowly get hotter and hotter.

Now at work my lappy sits on my zalman cooler and everything is quite cool. The bigger fan doesn't even start anymore :). If you don't want a cooler maybe a simple alminium pad in a well climatized room could do the trick. Hey they don't do that. That would be nice. A simple aluminium pad to sit the lappy on. I'm sure it would be better than wood.

I think you're onto something here. Wood's probably not the best surface to sit high performance laptops on. I should try and change my table surface some.

Anyway, since the original poster was asking about heat problems for a laptop he'd be taking travelling with him, his choice of surfaces will be severely limited as well. Those hotel beds have pretty lousy heat dissipating characteristics :)
