    Hello,

I am looking for a laptop for music production, and giving this machine a serious consideration despite not being for sale locally (in Japan).

Anyway, I noticed that is has been out for almost a year already, and with USB 3 and things, I was wondering if this is going to be updated or replaced with a new model soon. I would really hate to spend the money to get one and then see it updated a month later (probably by the time I actually receive it!)

Also, I understand there are supposed to be some new i7 CPUs coming out this year. If I did buy this as it is now, would I be able to simply pop in a new CPU later?

One last thing, is there any chance of 8G memory chips coming out soon?

Really appreciate any info you guys can provide. Thanks.

No replies because there is no info? Or did I ask a ridiculous question? Sorry if that was the case.

If anything's coming out soon, it should be officially announced during CEBIT in March, as per previous Clevo trends.

Wouldn't bet on it, would depend on socket + bios at the least.

Not likely and definitely not without being exorbitant. Only 8GB chips I know of are server RAM and those are priced ridiculously.

It's also worth remembering that the D900F uses desktop i7 CPUs, not mobile i7.

Yeah, I know that it is desktop CPU and motherboard, thanks for mentioning it though, just in case.

I just feel a little apprehensive to spend so much money for a laptop that has already been out a year even though it is one bad-a$$ box.

I would not recomend buying the laptop with the purpose of upgrading it so soon. It seems kinda of waste, since a processor is able to run most of the stuf for several year. Me personally I will buy the D900F next year when and if the hexacore on 32nm will be available on D900F and if there is a different version from hte extreme one.

Well, if I could wait, I would. There are just too many things happening now, new CPU architecture, USB 3, windows 7 and driver support for it. I don't have my own pc at the moment, just using my work laptop, which is just too low spec for what I am doing.

hm, well i dont think USB 3 will make that big of an impact honestly, what would you be using USB for mainly? And the laptop works fine with win7, im currently using the very same laptop w/win7.. it supports the new architecture

I think that USB3 will be most used for external hard drives, at the moment USB2 is a huge bottleneck for most people using them.

E-SATA is great and all, but alot of people don't have it or don't know what it's for...

It will also probably replace both USB 2 and FireWire for audio interfaces. I don't want to be buying new machines every two years, and when things like USB 3 are the norm, laptops without them just won't have any resale value. Just an example though, I am not quite so concerned about USB 3. I just don't want to spend full price for a machine that is near end of life and see a new version come out shortly after I buy. For something this expensive, that really bugs me. Same thing with the apple crowd, they just keep waiting and waiting for the new MacBook pro update.
