Ok what happened is this
The laptop got busted
but my datas are all still inside
so what i did was
i bought a portable HDD casing SATA
put it inside and plugged it onto my toshiba laptop
but then now it states
the disk drive is unformatted
would you like to format it now?
And im like wtf!
what do i do??? sigh~
-
can anyone help me?
the data inside are very important
here's whats strange~
i tried installing a new window and it says that the D: has 98GB free
(obviously it wont have that much free if there's something inside)
but if say that i put it into a laptop which supports SATA
as its primary drive, it will load to windows XP (which is the OS inside
that D: but it wont launch, it will just go to blue screen and restart)
so i think there's really something inside that hard drive
but it just cant detect~
can anyone help me? -
hopefully you did not use RAID-0
in any case, get GetDataBack for NTFS
it will help recover any and all data on functioning HDDs. -
sorry
so, what must i do again?
could you give me the link gophn?
please note that im no longer using the D900K as its spoilt atm
so yeah, i am just using a normal (old) toshiba that still uses PATA as primary drive actually -
http://www.runtime.org/gdbnt.zip
use that program to recover the data from the HDD. -
ok im quite new at the program
but just wanted to confirm
now it is searching for NTFS file system
and it takes like 2 hrs+
am i doing the right thing?
(its not formatting it or anything right?) -
only search the drive that you want to recover data from.
-
yep~
its just that D: i guess
but boy its noisy
and sometimes it has error reading so i just skip -
just skip all errors, and then pull out the data that you need
-
i cant pull out the data until the scan is complete right?
which means i have to wait like.... 6 hours according to this program -
wow
6 hours
better keep decent, up-to-date backups next time -
its more then just 6 hrs now
i left my com for the night and its still scanning -
You can also try EasyRecovery Pro, made by a famous company - Ontrack.
http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com/file-recovery-software/
Download - Trial:
http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com/...load.ontrack.com/freedownloads/ERPROT_610.exe
Of course, if the data is very very important. -
well, ill try that program
once im done with this one
can you believe it?
28 hrs scanning
and its still at 38%~
at this rate it'll probably finish when i get to see my grandson -
theres something wrong ig its taking that long, you were supposed to scan only the one drive that you want to recover data from.... NOT all of the drives in the entire computer.
-
yes
just the D: right?
thats what i did~
take a look
-
wow
that's a whole lot of errors
probably the reason it takes so long
good luck retreiving it though -
yeah i know
anyways, its still at that %
been doing it since yesterday afternoon -
ok stop the program.
you need to do a CheckDisk (CHKDSK /F) on this drive to fix the errors before you do the data recovery.
It will make things muck quicker. -
ok
ill let you know how things goes -
ok this is weird
when i plug in my hard drive
it makes this strange click clock sound
and my com doesnt even detect the drive at all~ -
Sounds like mechanical failure. You should check that out.
-
thats not good, any physical sound (like clicking) is a bad sign towards hardware failure.
try to turn it upside down or on its side... hopefully it can still spin up. -
ok now it spins up
but the D: doesnt show in my computer anymore
when i clicked device manager, it is there though
-
wow, the PCB (board) of the HDD might be a bit screwed up since the proper HDD name does not display.
try to unplug the USB and plug it into another USB port.
if it does not show up in My Computer again, go to Disk Management:
- right-click on My Computer > choose Manage
- its under Disk Management -
i dont see it
this is what i have
-
you drive might be dead.... although if its spinning up, you still have a chance.
take out the HDD from the enclosure and put it back in securely.
plug the enclosure's USB to another USB port on the computer that you havent used yet with this enclosure. -
i really think its dead *sigh*
looks like my whole sager laptop is dead now
and the warrantech company isnt helping at all apparently -
so its out of warranty?
you can still get it serviced by Sager, Pro-Star or Eurocom.
you just need to confirm with them what the issues are and how much it might cost. -
actually.... a bad HDD can cause a system from working properly
... so your system might not be as dead as you think. -
no, its still within warranty
but the bad thing about warrantech is that
they mentioned something about 13 digit registration number
that was given to me when i first purchase this laptop
I cannot find the number as im in australia now
everything's back in singapore.
And for all you know, i LOST it~
and THEN what? does that mean that the warranty's invalid?
i mean, its like i practically threw money down the drain if that's the case~
(which is why part of me feels like suing the company *sigh*)
as for the issue
im assuming the worse
(motherboard failure)
if thats the case, hoo boy, its like buying a new laptop -
well~
i took out the HDD and it still wouldnt switch on
so the fault has got to be with the motherboard i suppose
i reseated everything just like you suggested
still no luck -
a new mobo is around $500-600... so not that bad... but a headache nonetheless.
The Serial # of the unit is all over it, not just in one place (under the notebook).
There are serials on the motherboard (near the memory), on the videocard module, and on the battery.
It should start with NK******* thats the Clevo serial number.
You should see it say SERIAL #:
if it has a PS********** at the beginning, that chassis came from Pro-Star.
if it has, pretty much anything else, (for this situation) its probably from Sager.
NOTE: you might notice 2 stickers, one on top of the other.
- the one on top: is the sticker from the reseller to ID their notebooks
- the one on bottom: (usually with NK******) is the original sticker from Clevo. -
is it the serial # of the unit that they're talking about?
or the 13 digit serial that is ONLY written on the warrantech paper? -
have you look under disk magment see if show file system all might need it be check disk
if raid you problay best useing go back -
Go Back is a useless program.... I never recommend it.
-
when i spoke to steve (the dude from pctorque)
i think he mentions that the serial warrantech requires
is the 13 digit that is on the paper that's distributed along with the laptop
im not sure about him saying that the
serial is ON the laptop itself
any experience gophn? -
i do not care about warrantech's serial
what is the chassis' serial number???
It should start with NK.........
That will be Clevo's serial.
Then look for another serial that starts with:
PS********
or
8********
refer to my previous post above about the serial numbers. -
Oh yes
the serial is on the battery
NK(12digit)
and yes
there is the 8(11digit) serial as well
below the window xp authentication -
YAY for you.
The 8********** serial number is more than likely a SAGER serial.
So go contact Sager later and confirm if that notebook is one of theirs.... 90% certain that it is.
Then you can get it (the barebones at least) RMA'ed through them. -
contact SAGER
or contact PCTorque?
you mean they offer the warranty?
sorry gophn could you tell me more?
but when i bought this unit,
the warranty that i bought is from warrantech though~
what am i supposed to do now -
This is the website right?
http://www.sagernotebook.com/information.php?information_id=5
i mean, what am i supposed to tell them?
my notebook's broken and that i need their help to fix it
but its still under warrantech's warranty? -
Contact SAGER... they are the Clevo notebook distributor.... not PCTorque (which is just a Sager reseller)
-
Alright, ill see what i can do~
hopefully they would accept repair -
hey gophn
this is what they replied
According the SN# and invoice show already out of Sager’s one year warranty and invoice show there is no extended warranty purchase with this laptop from Sager, and this laptop was purchased through the company named “PC Torque” if you think you do have ext. warranty and I believe you have the deal with “PC Torque” for the ext. warranty. -
wow, that sucks.
I guess you should contact PCTorque next then. -
i did that
and the guy ask me to contact warrantech
because pctorque offers 1 year warranty as well
and as i mentioned before,
warrantech needs that 13 registration number code -
if you paid with a credit card, then you have a trail of proof for your purchase.
screw warrantech, tell PCtorque that they wont help you, then the warranty will fall onto PCtorque's shoulders -
Stalvros, is your notebook still functional?
Remove the HDD and test it, see if it still powers up.
For HDD, you can file a separate RMA for it directly with Toshiba.
Because your HDD might not came from Sager since Resellers can purchase the Barebone and use components of their choice.
Go to Toshiba Website below, you can do warranty check, and you can file a claim if it's under warranty.
http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=ServicesSupport/HardDriveRepairCenter
By the way, I am sorry to say that your HDD is absolutely fxxxed. -
So it seems like Warrantech is providing you with that extended warranty by themselves. If that is the case, then you need to argue with them to get it fixed.
Or, the warranty is always covered by SAGER (If Warrantech claims so), then the money you paid for extended warranty has not been paid to SAGER. This means they took your money away and carried the "HOPE" that your notebook won't break within the warranty period.
