Hey all. I just bought this laptop off a buddy of mine. It's an Alienware Area-51 m7700, AKA the Clevo D900T. It has the Geforce 6800 GO video card in it.

I did not get a chance to boot it until a few days after receiving it, and have been, thus far, disappointed.

    Symptoms:

I will plug the laptop in to it's power supply, and attempt to boot it by hitting the power button. The power button illuminates, and I see the hard drive activity light come on, but I only hear the CD-ROM spin up when the hard drive access light illuminates. The monitor never appears to be power on, and remains black. No POST, nothing.

I pulled the RAM to re-seat, I pulled the vid card to re-seat, I pulled the hard drives alltogether, I re-seated the wireless card, and popped the BIOS battery to reset it. My buddy claims the last time he used it, a couple months ago, it did work properly. I am unsure about how to continue from this point.

I did NOT plug a monitor in to the laptop, so I am unsure if this is a connector issue, and I am going to do that after work today. If my computer monitor works correctly, what does that mean? if it does NOT, what does that mean?

I am hoping this is a silly connector issue, and I know my friend would not willingly sell me a bad laptop, so I am unsure about what I should be doing.

Thanks in advance, I look forward to seeing your responses.

Ok, it's been a couple days and I have taken the time to screw around with the laptop. I am now thinking this is a motherboard issue.

I purchased a used 6800 Ultra video card, assuming that the video card hard died. No dice. The same symptoms appear to be happening.

I am going to be purchasing a motherboard next, but I want to make sure that there is nothing else at fault before I make the purchase. Can anybody else suggest anything that I need to take a look at before I buy a mobo?

    Thanks
