Welp laptop back and running twin 8800s after one crapped out, running cooler now, much. I can't push the system past 165F period.
Now onto the issue at hand, I've been having some memory related errors for some time now, since before my graphics card died. The D900 came with twin Crucial DDR2 800 2gb 6-6-6-18 cards in it, and these have ran fine till recently.
I've tried searching online, but every single thread is from 2008 or older on the supported memory. Supposedly it can run twin 4gb cards, but will only recognize 6.8gbs? This is due to chipset limitations is what I read and not specifically bios. I've wanted to go 64bit for some time, but fail to see the point if I can't expand my memory past 4gb... Bad enough that running photoshop and firefox alone will eat 80% of my memory.
Would it be worth the effort to buy two 4gb cards, or should I just stick with 2gb cards and go with a lower latency? Currently thinking of these cards here Newegg.com - G.SKILL 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Laptop Memory Model F2-6400CL5S-2GBSK

Bump.
Anyone got any pertinent information? If I can't get confirmation on the total RAM I'll just stick with two new 2gb cards. -
There are people with 2x4GB in their D901C, although I do not have those threads at hand to confirm.
I do remember that the Sager resellers had a note that it will recognize 6.8GB only due to the chipset limitations.
However, if you run VMWare you may be able to access all the 8GB shared between the virtual machines, each one limited to 6.8GB. -
You can find a Hynix 4GB stick compatible with M570RU, a pair of those should also work with your D901C.

Since the D9xxC are essentially the same, then the 4gb cards should work, given the 6.8gb limitation. Well now I have something to waste money on besides my Z for once.
I find it funny that my motherboard's serial number is in the first few hundred made... D900c Revision D Serial #400...

Apparently 8gb is supported according to this thread here.
Might be upgrading my CPU in the future as well.... so glad I didnt buy an off the shelf pos.
