Hi all,
I've searched online to find out about this issue I'm having with my laptop. I'm fairly certain that the graphics card has blown but before I consider that decision final perhaps some people here at the forum might be of assistance.
I've had my Sager NP9262 for a couple years now, its always run really well. I use it for both gaming and some intensive video editing/3D work.
I was busy in Adobe Illustrator CS5 earlier today when a mass of artifacts appeared on the screen and the display went black. The computer had frozen yet it was still on.
I had to force shut down since there was no way of performing a safe shut down due to it locking up.
After I did this I turned the computer back on and it started to boot but the display was completely black.
The display is back lit as its booting and the hard drive light is working. It even gets into Windows (I can tell this by the Windows sound playing). The keyboard works, I'm able to type in my password to log into Windows 7 but nothing is displaying on the screen.
Now I'm not sure if the fault is with the graphics card or with the laptop LCD screen. In general if a graphics card isn't working the system should stop and throw some beeps without proceeding but this doesn't happen
I've tried taking the components out, reseating the graphics card and also trying the graphics card in the second available graphics port but nothing seems to help.
Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated
By the way my system specs are as follows:
Sager NP9262/ Clevo D901C
Intel Quad Core 2.4ghz
4GB ram
Geforce 9800M GT

Hi, the best way to be sure is to plug your laptop into an external monitor. If everything displays properly externally it is your laptop's LCD display (or associated components) that is the problem, if you still get a black screen on the external it is likely the graphics card.

Aah I forgot to mention that, I actually did test it on both the VGA out and the DVI out and I got nothing. So I suppose my initial idea that the cards blown is probably right.
Bummer -
Afraid it's looking that way, especially since you saw artefacts before it went to black. You could try baking the card and seeing if that works, otherwise looks like you may need a new card. Never baked myself, but there are guides on this site and elsewhere. It seems to have a higher success rate than I initially thought it would. -

The fx 3700m is an upgrade and cheaper than.
Only problem is compatibility on the d901c, not all the video outputs will work.
There are a number of types of cards out there and even more vBIOS that are compatible with them. There are a few things we haven't tried.
So I think its probably a good course of action to buy one.
