Hey guys, wanted to ask the D901c experts here about the D901c upgradability with the future 98XX gtx cards. I heard that D901c has the MXM Type IV, and that is what the new 9 series mobile cards going to be using. If this is true then it will narrow down my notebook choices, thanks a bunch and will give + rep

We don`t know dude. Nobody can say. If you`ve been following the forums, you`d know that even the 8800M GTX swap required a new mobo.
Clevo might even discontinue the upgrading of the D901C chasis for all we know.
We can only hope for future upgradeability, but nothing is certain in life except death and taxes.
And that Paris Hilton is a moron.

We will only know it when the card is out.it might need a MOBO change in worst case.

In theory the D901c should be compatible with 9XXX cards (thermal limits, power specifications, etc...) but it all comes down to Clevo to release them for the D901c.
Maybe they are compatible without a mobo swap and the only thing you need is a bios update, who knows.

You can always add a second 8800m GTX though but SLI also has it's problems.

Actually the M570RU did not need mobo upgrade IN SOME CASES.
As I said,it`s anyone`s best guess, but if the 9th series are just better 8th series with lower power consumptions,it`d be safe to say that new mobos won`t be required.
It`s what I`m hoping for actually.

it actually comes down to Nvidia once again.

if they keep the current MXM config and power requirements like than of the 8800M GTX, then there will be no need for a motherboard upgrade... only a BIOS upgrade at most

There is no reason to change the current MXM config. They just shrink the current 8th series,so it`s in their best interest to use a design that already works.

Thats what I think as well.

I am confident that current MXM-IV systems will be able to upgrade to 98xxM without motherboard upgrades.

Confidence and Nvidia don`t really go well into a sentence.
But I keep my fingers crossed, since I`m the upgrading bussiness :)

no, "confidence" and "Nvidia" is not an oxymoron.

Is there a big performance difference between 8800GTX and 9800GTX?
