    why do you need it?

I hope you do not intend to flash your 8800M GTX.... because there is no need... since they are the same exact cards in specs and performance.

You would be risking screwing up your videocard(s) to get NO benefit.

It would be nice to learn if there are any significant changes to the BIOS code, if the boards are identical, the coding should also be identical... If something changes for the 9800, should it also have changed for the 8800's?... If GanGstaOne can sleuth through this, what's the harm?

I just got some PM's of people bricking their 8800M GTX's by flashing the VBIOS with a new 9800M GT's VBIOS.

So its very risky for little or no benefit.

if the 9800 is the same as 8800M GTX then how come 9800 has higher rating on 3DMark???

not really... look at the SM2.0 and SM3.0/HDR scores.

They [8800M GTX and 9800M GT] are actually the same.*

    * please not that the OS used and drivers can give slight score variations.

I back Gophn on this one - there is absolutely no need to do this. You will get no benefits and it's pretty likely that flashing a 98GT BIOS onto an 88GTX will mess it up

EDIT: the 9800GT is not a rebranded 88GTX so they're not identical

Really? Wasn't the whole story that they were the exact same? I LIKE the idea that the dual 9800M GT's that I am getting are completely new cards and not rebranded 8800M GTX's.

From paladin44's benchmark comparisons (probably the most accurate)

    9800M GT

    TimeDemo Run 0 - 16.59 FPS (avg)
    TimeDemo Run 1 - 17.12 FPS (avg)
TimeDemo Run 2 - 17.12 FPS (avg) ... weird, duplicate
    TimeDemo Run 3 - 17.12 FPS (avg) ... weirder

    8800M GTX

    TimeDemo Run 0 - 16.05 FPS (avg) -3.25%
    TimeDemo Run 1 - 15.90 FPS (avg) -7.13%
    TimeDemo Run 2 - 15.92 FPS (avg) -7.01%
    TimeDemo Run 3 - 15.90 FPS (avg) -7.13%

I think that these numbers speak of a slight increase in the power of the 9800M GT over the 8800M GTX.

    What do you think Nirvana?

1.) Dont believe what you read at Notebookcheck (they use engineering samples and beta equipment).

2.) They do not post the system being used, and the OS and drivers.

3.) When you want to compare videocard 3DMark scores, you should show:
    - the SM2.0 score
    - the HDR/SM3.0 score
    .
(the CPU score is added to the total score, which skews the overall comparisons)

Those number are completely false. We have at least two 5796 reviews here plus a benchmarks from Justin.

edit: Donald also posted crysis benchmark. 9800m GT was only 1fps faster.

In this case, for the 9XXX series of cards, they did provide "some" information. The 9800M GTS/GT/GTX and 9700M GTS/GT cards were tested on a Q6600 system according to their benchmarks.

Good information, I did not know this. I had already removed the area about notebookcheck.com before reading your post. The results seemed to large of a difference. When I get my D901C with dual 9800M GT's, I will post a large set of benchmarks for others to look at.

If I knew this earlier I would just order a cheaper 8800 GTX card instead of a laptop with 9800 GT :(

You mean the 8800M GTX? On Eurocom's site, the 8800M GTX is 200-ish more, per card! oO

Good new for the gtx's. From what I've heard when talking to some resellers, provided the release on the 22 of the 9800gtx goes smoothly and without issues, ball-park predictions are that sli models should be rolling out around mid september! NICE! :)
