Intel Management Engine Interface Driver <= What's this?

Is the chipset driver is the older version of the Intel Rapid Storage Technology? Intel Rapid Storage Technology Version 10.1.5.1001 WHQL

    Also, Synaptics Touchpad 15.2.16

The chipset driver is separate from the rapid storage driver. I'll check out the Synaptics driver, thanks for the finds.

EDIT: Those RST drivers don't support the Intel 6 series aka HM65/HM67 sandy bridge chipsets, the AHCI driver for 6 series is included in the chipset driver package.

Are there any drivers specific to specific models? Like drivers only for the NP8130, perhaps?

Short answer is no, the 8130/8150 are identical in terms of HM65 motherboard for example, the 8170 is HM67 which is mostly only different in terms of raid support, 5160/5170 are a slightly different HM65 just in terms of IGP being wired to function but are still the same for component drivers.

The only real driver differences between models will be user defined configurations for wifi/video card etc, everything else will be the same drivers.

Hope that helps explain it a bit better.

I looked at the download links for RST drivers and while the detailed description doesn't say anything about support for 6 series, the section that say what products the download is valid for it clearly says 6 series both mobile and desktop.

I think the RST drivers could still be valid.

If it has 6 series support I haven't found a version that does yet, I flipped through the RST inf for the latest one on station-drivers and there was no 6 series controllers listed.

New JMicron JMB38X Flash Media Controller 1.00.59 WHQL: J-MICRON drivers & utilitaires

There is a Non-WHQL RST Driver: Intel Rapid Storage Technology Version 10.5.0.1022 non WHQL, I'm not sure if it work on your laptop but I have it currently installed.

Is there any way we could include these tools? They are better than the built-in ones from each card maker.

Updated the first post with 14.0.2.2, sorry I don't have the Intel wlan card so I wasn't able to test the 14.1.0.0 myself beforehand, I'm also currently out of town on business so I hadn't seen the comments about that till now.

Guys, I downloaded and installed the latest Intel Chipset Drivers version but when I checked the chipset version, it's 9.2.0.1026 instead of 9.2.0.1030. Any clue?

This is how I checked the driver version,
    Device manager -> System devices -> 2nd Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) Processor Family DRAM Controller -0104 -> left click -> properties -> driver

Not all devices are brought up to the same rev as the package, only drivers that were updated in that revision will show the new number, devices that didn't need an update will show the last version number in which they received an update.

The Intel chipset driver encompasses a large array of individual device drivers for various Intel components, newer versions of the package still include older driver revisions for devices that didn't have an updated driver at the time the package was made or simply didn't require an update, it ONLY installs drivers on components it actually has an updated driver for, if the driver rev for a certain device is the same as what it already has it leaves it be.

Btw, could you please enlighten me regarding the NVIDIA 275.27 driver? I downloaded the setup and straightly installed it without the INF 275.27.zip. Is it correct?

quick question, how many chipset drivers do you guys have listed/installed in your device manager?

right now ive got 8 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHZ listed. not sure if each for a separate component of the CPU or ive somehow installed a ton of extras.

That's normal. It lists one for each thread the processor can handle. Quad core + hyperthreading = 8 threads. Device manager lists them all despite only having 4 cores, because it doesn't differentiate between cores and threads. For the same reason you can open task manager > performance and see 8 sections under CPU usage. As far as the OS knows, you've got 8 different cores on your quad + HT machine.

Actually going to update the list with the last one Sager put up, so far the best scrolling I've gotten is on the Sager and Clevo version of the driver, theres a lot of specific OEM settings put into various Synaptics drivers.

No, it appears that isn't in the options on the Clevo or Sager OEM driver, you may want to try the generic or another OEM's version for that, station-drivers has a few variants.

Personally I'm falling back to the one Clevo provides, I get extremely over-accelerated scrolling (at least for my taste) on all but that version, including the newest Sager provided driver.

I'll be looking into INF modding the driver to correct that in the newer revs and add features like the disable on external mouse connect.

Looks like NVIDIA has released a new WHQL Verde/Optimus driver, version 275.33. I checked the archive, and it appears as though these drivers support the Sager/Clevo GeForce GT 555M without the need for a modified .inf. Of course, someone will have to actually install these to be sure. I would do that, but my system isn't scheduled to arrive until tomorrow.

Just updated, no issues or modified INF needed. Nice little noticeable performance increase from the 270.61 drivers. 3DMark06 scores jumped about 100pts from 10460-10485 to 10585. In-test FPS appear to jump 3-5FPS across the board.

Atmosk, if that's not much to ask, can you please add basic description of each driver and why we need to install it.

Ex.: I have no clue why Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver is there. I uninstalled it 'cause I don't see any use for it.

I don't think it's any use installing all these drivers at all, only graphic drivers and maybe usb 3.0 ones are needed and the synaptics should be a nice addition if you use the touchpad often but otherwise everything should work fine without the need to install any of the other stuff, I think it adds bloat to the OS.
Btw amd catalyst 11.6 is released.

Installing a driver adds bloat? If I replace files and services outright with another how am I adding bloat?
Also you do realize that driver updates only come out when issues have been fixed or performance gains have been achieved right?
It costs the companies a pretty penny just to produce the updates so it's not done without reason.

Thats just one of the oddest statements I've ever read about driver updates, if your personal opinion is never to update drivers than more power to you but showing up to the party just to say you don't go to parties and nobody else should is counterproductive, this topic was put up for the people that DO like to stay up to date and is only represented as such.

I've been out of town and busy so I'm late to respond to this but I'll see what I can do about descriptions.

What a great thread! I will receive my NP8130 in a week or so, so this will be helpful as a reference and guide. Thanks for all who/will contribute.

Installing drivers when a fresh install of the os handles the hardware perfectly is useless at best, when all functionality has been covered what need is there to install third party drivers? About issues and performance increase I have yet to notice difference in wireless range or cpu performance(and many more things for that matter) after installing the specified drivers for each. Of course some drivers are absolutely necessary but others aren't mandatory and as such they're additions that aren't required and that will somehow modify the default functionality of the os...it may not be outright bloat but I think it's similar...of course I have no evidence of this but it's just a basic assumption.

That's not what I said nor what I intended to say...I'm saying that a fresh install of a said OS should pick up drivers automatically and thus not all the provided ones are really needed, however I would strongly advocate updating to the latest graphics drivers etc...and as you stated this is strictly my opinion I'm not questioning the usefulness of this thread, it's actually really helpful, I'm just stating that things like "intel rapid storage" and "intel management engine interface" aren't an absolute necessity(especially for the average user) alright?

^ That's right. Install drivers only for those devices OS setup didn't find drivers for. And then hotkey drivers, video and sound.

This is important for people who uses SSDs. The software included on it is useless IMO but the driver is important.
