 Clevo Guide Update
Calling ALL Clevo retailers, customers, and NBR forum members.
At long last, I am finally overhauling the Clevo Guide and about to publish it.
I have made a new HTML format for it and now...
I would like any extra information that might needed to be added to it or to improve it.
I have a huge list of resellers that i added but.....
Information that I would appreciate:
- all possible Clevo vendors (anywhere in the world) .... list all the one that you know that are still around.
- any Clevo notebook vendor to contact me if I havent contacted you yet (especially for ones that are not on the current list)
- suggestions on what you want to know in the Clevo Guide
- which models should I reflect
(ATM i am covering: D900C/D901C, M570RU(-U)/M571RU(-U), M860TU, M570TU, M72R/SR, M620NC... etc.. on Clevo's site)
- whatever else that is relevant
EDIT: (05-30-2008)
![]()
OK, i forgot how annoying making this guide is... mainly the "cold calling" to vendors.
I have been trying to contact as many vendors as possible for them to fill out my questionnaire for the Clevo Guide.
Like before, most do not reply... I do not know why. But if they want to be listed (which is like free advertising), they need to give me the info that I want.
So if you guys want to help out, I need a couple of things:
1.) need to compile an updated massive list of US & international vendors (I have mine, but can be missing a lot)
2.) need to compile a list of proper emails to send out the questionnaire to
3.) members that can speak/write different languages to help contact international vendors
(since I can mainly speak English, intermediate Spanish, intermediate Vietnamese, basic Japanese)
I will appreciate any help.![]()
This is the main holdup for the new Guide Update.... no responses (either due to language barriers, improper email address that was sent to, not knowing/caring about this guide, my email address does not reflect NotebookReview, etc.)
What a pain in the butt... but I enjoy it (when it turns out right)![]()
Thanks for the support guys, you have made this forum great for participating /sharing your knowledge and experiences.
-Gophn
P.S. PM me if you want to.![]()

CLEVO is a large Taiwanese computer company specializing in laptops. While the Clevo brand name is perhaps not widely known, their products are re-branded and sold by known boutique brand OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers)… notably Sager, VoodooPC, Falcon Northwest, Eurocom, etc.
They are also considered (by whoever knows about notebooks) to design and manufacturer the best of the best notebooks in terms of superior build quality and innovative designs.
Established in 1983, as an ODM (Original Design Manufacturer), they sell barebones ranging from laptop to portable computing solutions for both AMD and Intel processors. Clevo is one of the world's most preferred ODM partners and markets their products in more than 50 countries, and have established service centers in the USA, Germany, Britain, China, and Taiwan.Their main notebook range includes:
* PortaNote (denoted with an D*** in the model number) - Desktop Replacement and Multimedia systems, with features like support for desktop CPUs and multiple hard drives.
* MobiNote (denoted with an M*** in the model number) - Thin and Lightweight systems with superior build quality and performance.
* TabletNote (denoted with a T*** in the model number) - Tablet computer systems.
* LCD PC (denoted with an L*** in the model number) - Portable Desktop all-in-one solutions.<a name="accomplishments" id='accomplishments'>What has Clevo done to distinguish itself?

<a name="clevotoconsumer" id='clevotoconsumer'>How Do Clevo Notebooks Come to You:
To spot a Clevo (for fun):
1.) When Clevo ships out their notebooks, they are all in barebones* form.
2.) The barebones are shipped to a handful of Clevo importers/OEMs (example for North America: Sager, Pro-Star, Eurocom) that custom build, rename and brand Clevo models (e.g. Sager NP9262) and sell them to end users directly, and through resellers. They also distribute the barebones to various non-importing OEMs.
3.) The non-importing OEMs that buy the barebones from the importer/OEMs then install the custom (yet standardized) components that a customer would choose (CPU, HDD, RAM, etc.)... and may even re-brand the notebook with a new coat of paint, adding stickers, and other customizations.
4.) Then you [the consumer] receives it, which has a warranty through the vendor/reseller you purchased it from, as well as a warranty through the Clevo distributor/importer (for the barebones only).
Note: Clevo does NOT deal with consumers directly, for purchasing or support. The consumer must go through the vendor first for service/support.
* Definition of Barebones: (from Wikipedia) A barebone computer is a half-assembled platform that consists of a case with a power supply, a motherboard preinstalled into the system case, and a cooling system. Barebones are usually designed in a non-standard way and cannot be assembled out of widely available hardware parts. The purchaser of such a platform only has to equip it with a CPU, RAM, hard drive and additional input/output devices depending on his/her own needs.
Within the previous years’ models, the majority of Clevo notebooks have a few distinct things in common…...the metallic circle on the top-center, above the LCD where a built-in camera is.
...(for 17"+ notebooks) the keyboard with the unique layout and NumPad.

Reseller rating: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/LynnBay
Also, I know this may sounds strange but I think you should keep the M590KE because many resellers still have it as a product, just an idea.
P.S. If you already have a compiled list, it might help if you posted the name of the resellers so you won't get a bunch of posts with sellers you currently have. -
It would be nice to know of possible and past problems with some models.
No offence to anyone, but as a future customer, I would like to know the history of the product, its reliability and such.
Kinda like a pros and cons collumn,as far as users are concerned. -
I would not mind linking to another thread about a particular model... like Owners thread or like a model thread (like the recently popular M860TU).
Thanks for the replies though. -
Owners` thread, that`d work.
-
well, add PCMW, i could tell you from experience that they are normally priced slightly above average, but have frequent sales that are very below average. And they are very easy to work with/cut deals over the fone. Add the differences in computers of the same model (i.e. 9260,61,62, same for 579x)

I think you should look at splitting the Guide into two separate parts.
One part should focus on the OEM's and re-sellers and the other part should focus on the different Models.
Both should be separate sticky threads.
What I found most helpful about the current Guide was having all the information on the OEM's & Resellers centralised in one spot. Whenever I felt like doing a price comparison, I would start at the Guide and click back and forth on the links to check out the current pricing of the different OEM's/resellers.
On the other hand, the information on the different models was outdated before I got here (around Xmas07) and was therefore superfluous. With things changing so rapidly, it would be hard to keep up. All that is needed is a central spot that gives links to the major threads about different models. -
You could include Kobalt Computers UK and Novatech UK in Clevo resellers.I think I did not see them being mentioned in the Clevo reseller guide. Many users(UK) here at NBR bought the np5793 and the np9262 from them.

Ok guys, I have been debugging HTML for the last two days.
Check out Sneak Peak of the New Guide.
Go to first post of thread.
Tell me what you think.
I changed a number of things:
- added (and elaborate) more Clevo information
- removed subjective aspects for resellers/vendors
- created benchmark configs for pricing comparisons
I will need to contact all vendors again, since I changed the vendor description criteria..
So hopefully the full Guide will be up by week's end. -
Perhaps that line might be broken into two lines to read as follows:

Since the Guide is going to be quite large, scrolling and search might be quite cumbersome... I decided to adopt the code system.
If you see the first line it says:
Use the Find function in your browser and type in the code (with the colons) to be taken directly to that section. -
But why :LO3B9I:?
Why not901c:?
-
I just randomly generate it.
I redid the codes... all LETTER, no numbers.
What do you think of the Guide's new info? -
Looks good, just one thing. Be sure to give special designations to the resellers who have reps on NBR. Like put stars next to them or something
-
and also"
"* MobiNote (denoted with an M*** in the model number) - Thin and Lightweight systems with superior build quality and performance."
Thin and lightweight???? -
Also link the logo of the reseller to their home page.
-
I have been linking the logo's.
Good suggestion about the resellers having reps on NBR.
I have to figure out what to do about that.
-
"and have established service centers in the USA, Germany, Britain, China, and Taiwan."
Shouldnt you include UK and Canada? -
Well, Britain IS the UK...Technically its full name is the United Kingdom of Great Britain...
-
Oh, Sorry, LOL, didnt see that
I deserve to be bashed with the unicorn stick of ignorance... -
