    CLEVO is a large Taiwanese computer company specializing in laptops. While the Clevo brand name is perhaps not widely known, their products are re-branded and sold by known boutique brand OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers)&hellip; notably Sager, VoodooPC, Falcon Northwest, Eurocom, etc.
    They are also considered (by whoever knows about notebooks) to design and manufacturer the best of the best notebooks in terms of superior build quality and innovative designs.

    Established in 1983, as an ODM (Original Design Manufacturer), they sell barebones ranging from laptop to portable computing solutions for both AMD and Intel processors. Clevo is one of the world's most preferred ODM partners and markets their products in more than 50 countries, and have established service centers in the USA, Germany, Britain, China, and Taiwan.

    Their main notebook range includes:
    * PortaNote (denoted with an D*** in the model number) - Desktop Replacement and Multimedia systems, with features like support for desktop CPUs and multiple hard drives.
    * MobiNote (denoted with an M*** in the model number) - Thin and Lightweight systems with superior build quality and performance.
    * Widescreen (denoted with an W*** in the model number) - Similar to MobiNote series but with a widescreen 16:9 display.
    * Rugged (denoted with an R*** in the model number) - New rugged and professionally designed.
    * TabletNote (denoted with a T***/TN*** in the model number) - Tablet computer systems.
    * LCD PC (denoted with an L*** in the model number) - Portable Desktop all-in-one solutions.

    <a name="clevotoconsumer" id='clevotoconsumer'>[/URL]How Do Clevo Notebooks Come to You:
    1.) When Clevo ships out their notebooks, they are all in barebones* form.
    2.) The barebones are shipped to a handful of Clevo importers/OEMs (example for North America: Sager, Pro-Star, Eurocom) that custom build, rename and brand Clevo models (e.g. Sager NP9262) and sell them to end users directly, and through resellers. They also distribute the barebones to various non-importing OEMs.
    3.) The non-importing OEMs that buy the barebones from the importer/OEMs then install the custom (yet standardized) components that a customer would choose (CPU, HDD, RAM, etc.)... and may even re-brand the notebook with a new coat of paint, adding stickers, and other customizations.
    4.) Then you [the consumer] receives it, which has a warranty through the vendor/reseller you purchased it from, as well as a warranty through the Clevo distributor/importer (for the barebones only).
    Note: Clevo does NOT deal with consumers directly, for purchasing or support. The consumer must go through the vendor first for service/support.

    * Definition of Barebones: (from Wikipedia) A barebone computer is a half-assembled platform that consists of a case with a power supply, a motherboard preinstalled into the system case, and a cooling system. Barebones are usually designed in a non-standard way and cannot be assembled out of widely available hardware parts. The purchaser of such a platform only has to equip it with a CPU, RAM, hard drive and additional input/output devices depending on his/her own needs.

    <a name="whybuy" id='whybuy'>[/URL]Why buy a Clevo notebook?
    1.) Price (Bang for the Buck): Since Clevo notebooks are sold by so many vendors, they are usually very price competitve (along with competitive service/support) as opposed to notebook models that are exclusive to only one vendor (whom can charge whatever they want)
    2.) Quality (Hard as a Rock): If you ever have a chance to try out a Clevo notebook (especially the high-end models), you will find that they have superior build quality and design as compared to mainstream notebooks.
    3.) Software (No Crap/Bloat-ware): When you purchase your custom systems, you can choose whichever OS you want to install (or have installed for you) and the OS is clean installed w/o extra trial/un-needed/useless software installed along with the system.
    4.) Upgradeability (Made Easy for Users): Clevo current high-end models are designed to specifically have their components (CPU, RAM, HDD, internal cards, and even the videocard) easily accessible for future upgrades.
    5.) Uniqueness (&quot;It Ain't a Dell&quot;): Subjective to personal preference. But having a custom high-end notebook that the masses cannot identify is pretty 1337.

    <a name="whattodo" id='whattodo'>[/URL]4.) Making a Clevo Purchase... (back to top)

    1.) Do Not Buy on Impulse: Make the purchase with a well-thought out mind.
    2.) Research (Lots of it): You must seriously research about any big item purchase (such as a notebook computer) by following the FAQ (here on NBR), use resources for looking up businesses ( BBB, resellerratings, WHOIS to look up the online store's info, etc). Also try to find out if the time that you need to purchase a system, if there is an upcoming model, check to see if it is worth it for you to wait.
    3.) Know the Alternatives (if any): It is good to know (by doing research) what other alternatives are out there. They can be used for comparisons, as well as a choice if a Clevo notebook does not meet your needs.
    4.) Know Who You Are Buying From: This guide is a small part in knowing who to buy from. It is highly recommended to directly contact your potential vendor to inquire about any questions that you might have. This will give you a good idea about their service/support, as well as see if they are right for you.
    5.) Warranty (&quot;Extended warranty?.. How can I lose?&quot;): Most to all Clevo notebooks should have at least a 1-year manufacturer's warranty for parts and labor. Most vendors might even include their own add-ons to that warranty (extra years of parts/labor warranty, lifetime tech support, etc.) without paying for it... included in purchase. Extended warranties are sometimes useful and sometimes not. They will depend on the owner's preference to get one if: (1) they are not too technically savy and might want some piece of mind, (2) they are going to use the system a lot, such as bringing it around everywhere... giving it more wear and tear, or (3) they might want to reap the benefits of an extended warranty that could include an upgrade path for the system that would cover the cost difference of upgrades.
    6.) Price (Most important factor?): As you see in the new guide, the pricing for most of the vendors are quite competitive with little to no differences in pricing... since most will price match or negotiate. Look at the warranty and service/support you will get... that is what is most important when buy such an item.
    7.) Make the purchase: Be happy with what you buy, regardless of what anyone else tells you. If you did your research, you should feel confident about what you bought. (There's nothing worse for a consumer than &quot;buyer's remorse.&quot ;)

    <a name="conclusion" id='conclusion'>[/URL]5.) Conclusion: Taking care of your notebook (back to top)

    Gaming/performance notebooks are a new thing, you must realize that you have to take some extra care of them over typical mainstream notebooks:

    1.) Battery: to maintain the longevity of any rechargeable battery
    - you must NEVER overcharge it [especially for long durations of time] by keeping it plugged into AC
    - when it reaches 100% you should unplug it and let it discharge to at least under 50%, then plug it back to power
    - OR you can just charge it to 50%+ and remove the battery and store in cool place.. not the fridge [remember to use it occasionally 3-4 time a year to charge and discharge it].

    2.) Heat: to prevent a healthy notebook from overheating*
    - ALWAYS use the notebook on a clean, hard &amp; flat surface
    - RECOMMENDED to be used on a notebook cooler... namely the Zalman ZM-NC1000 or ZM-NC2000
    - check your fans underneath occasionally (at least once a month or two) for any dust clogs [clean them out with Q-tips and air cans/compressors]
    - ALWAYS monitor the temps (CPU, GPU, HDD, etc..) to watch for fluctuations, which would indicate overheating by dust usually
    (for Clevo notebooks) use the Fan Toggle to switch all fans to Max Speed when gaming and such.

    * 3.) Overheating (time to clean out the dust):
    If you are overheating... usually any temp over 90C degrees is bad.

    when was the last time that you cleaned out the fans and vents thoroughly...?

    if never, then thats why.

    1) remove battery
    2) remove/unscrew the panels on the bottom of the notebook to get to fans and vents (if possible)
    3) use flashlight to look through vents for the dust (if you cant see the light on the other end, then the vents are clogged up)
    4) go outside, get some compressed air (cans or compressor @ ~ 50 PSI) and give the vents a good airing out all directions (concentrating on the vents)
    .... you might want to brace the fan blade(s) when airing it out (with anything to prevent it from spinning out too much)
    .... or use short bursts (1-2 secs) of air instead of bracing the fans.
    5) go get some Q-tips (cotton swabs) and swab the fan blades and the area around it
    6) then go do a second airing with compressed air (all directions again focusing on the fans and vents) to push out the dust that was dislodged from the Q-tips

    7**) Now go use the flashlight again and look through the vents (shine the flashlight from the fan, you look through the other end) for anymore dust clogs.

    8) Then start up the notebook... and let the fans cycle up (use the Fan Toggle at max speed if your system has it) to push out any other dust that might have been stuck.

    If all goes well you should be able to close up the notebook and...

    you're done.

    **repeat this step until its cleaned out.

    Thats pretty much it.

    Just make sure to do this every two-three months... it should take about 15-20min per cleaning if you want to be thorough.

    By doing these simple things, your entire system will easily last for more than 3 years.

    Another one you can add is KillerNotebooks ( www.killernotebooks.com). They seem to run more expensive than some of the others, and seems to be more of a one guy operation, but he seems to trick them out specifically for gaming performance. He's also really active on the tomshardware forums and elsewhere, and people seem pleased by his level of dedication to customers and others.

    I actually just (finally!) ordered myself a 5760 from FlawlessComputers, so I will hopefully soon be joining the club of Clevo/Sager owners myself. :)

    I have another suggestion that might be useful. It would be nice to know who deals with the warranty with each company.

    Like for example, PCTorque has 1 year through Sager and then you can extend your warranty through some 3rd party (in which the quality of service may vary).

    If people want a 2-4 year warranty, they shouldn't have to put up with the semi bait and switch stunt some of these resellers pull on the novice buyers.

    I know it would be a lot of work but it would add more legacy to your awesome FAQ prowess.

    absolutely great guide gophn! it's been a real help in my search for a worthwhile laptop... can't wait for the updated info.... had a question regarding the 570/575 U series, though. At clevo's main site they indicate that the system memory is expandable to 4GB. The resellers i've visited online seem to indicate however that their configurable 570U's are only expandable to 2GB of RAM. Is it that these notebook's can indeed only support up to 2GB of RAM, or is it just that the reseller's are unwilling to sell/configure 4GB notebooks? Just curious if anyone knew what was up.

    2 gig dimms are very expensive so i'd imagine it's a business decision not to offer that choice. Windows xp can only make use of 2.5-3 gigs of ram, there's some companies that offer up to 3 gigs!

    most vista packages can handle up to 8 gigs of ram

    Hi, I'm planning to buy a gaming laptop later this year and from this forum I thought the clevo ones looks pretty promising... However, my father will be buying the laptop for me and he will only buys from a store but not from online (no matter how many times I try telling him that online shopping is safe). I think he will buy the laptop in Hong Kong or in Shanghai. So do you guys think there are any shops which sells Clevo laptops over those 2 places? Or do you guys know of any other mothods (except ordering online)? If not I will not be able to get a clevo and I may become a very sad sad person... :( Plz help!

    He will not be disappointed, I promise. These guys are not salesman, they are all very knowledgeable and helpful, they will answer any (and I mean ANY) and all questions/concerns. He wont have to worry about the internet.

    Well, Clevo is based in Taiwan, they should have some resellers in that area, but it might not be easy to find, since the markets for the gaming notebooks are everywhere else on the planet.

    Clevo as well as many other custom notebooks are very rare to find in stores, especially retail chains (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.). Where are you located? I know of a number of Clevo resellers that would let you come in person to check out their notebooks.

    Thx very much for your reply! I am a Engineering university student and I am living in Adelaide, South Australia. However, my father is the one with all the cash so he will be buying the laptop for me (probably after some good DX10 cards come out for notebooks). My father currently works in Shanghai but he will go to Hong Kong once in a few months. From my experience he prefers to buy stuff in Hong Kong... Also, from your previous post, what did you mean by "Tell him to call up:

    Did you mean sending an email to those people or did you mean to phone them? I don't really know their phone numbers...

    yeah, if you or your father has questions or concerns, I would recommend to call them up or email them. Calling would be best.

    If someone wanted to start their own brand of clevo based laptops how would they start? E.G. where would they buy the barebones equipment from? It doesn't look like one can just log onto clevo's site and start buying the barebones systems. Any suggestions?

    I'll add my congrats to a great post. Btw, Widow PC charges a huge premium as do a few other boutique builders, for the paint job. E.g. M590ke with same specs - Hypersonic/Sager/RJ Tech/M-Tech, around 4,200 with 3 yr warranty. WidowPC, 6,190. Go figure

    Three Things:
    1. Micro Express seems to be selling the Clevo M62* as the NP6260. ( hxxp://www.microexpress.net )

    2. EuroCom is now sellsing the Clevo M62* as the EUROCOM M620NC TITANIUM. ( hxxp://www.eurocom.ca/ )

    3. The M621NC and M620NC models are backward in color. The M620NC is charcoal and the M621C is white. However, that seems not to matter. Sager, Pro-Star, RJtech, EuroCom, ITC, and Micro Express are carrying silver M62* notebooks only (I think RJtech might have charcoal.) So the one featured in the NotebookReview review is not available through any of those resellers. I'm still waiting to hear back from ISTNC, but I suspect the story will be the same. Most of the resellers still have white as an option on their website, but if you call them, they will say they no longer supply that color.

    So my question is, where do we get the white M62's?? Nothing has popped up on ebay, so I don't even know if anyone was able to purchase them. I would love to buy one, but I just can't find any. Even the Australians don't have them. Can anyone find one? Thanks, and great guide!

    Who out of all the resellers listed has the longest and best reputation. I think I am going to do what I originally planned to do which is go with RJTECH and not flawless. I would be happy and gaming on it right now. I want a Clevo 570-u. Any tips or anything that would make me feel good about dealing with another reseller I don't want to buy a dell.

    Who out of all the resellers listed has the longest and best reputation?

    I am uncertain if I go for the Dell M1710 or the Clevo 570-U, however I am more to the Clevo 570. Can you please post the best sites where I can buy the clevo, preferably a european site. The ones listed from the UK costs more than the US sites.

    if you want a great European company to get a Clevo M570U from, then look no further.

    Rockdirect.com, they have been a long standing company with competitive pricing for about 16 years now.

    In North America, the long standing Clevo sellers (10+ years w/ good pricing) are:

    Hey everyone. I'm looking to purchase a new notebook and after looking through all my options I have decided to purchase a Sager np5760. I live in Tokyo, but do not know of any Clevo/Sager resellers off the bat so I was wondering if anyone could help me either a) find a store that I can go speak to about custom configuration orders, or b) direct me to an internet site that is specific to Japan so I wont have to pay extra shipping. I am not really sure of the Japanese models that are resold Clevo models. I do not really care about a Japanese keyboard nor do I care about Windows being in Japanese. (I am running off of a Japanese OS already.) If I am unable to locate one, then I will just go ahead and order one when I go back to visit America. I am just looking for options here to take advantage of possible warranty/support. (I at least plan to live in Tokyo for the next year and a half, so its pointless for me to expect any kind of support from an American reseller.)

    Any help would be appreciated.
