    Who is Clevo?

A lot of you might be asking “Who is Clevo? I’ve never heard of their brand name before.” Well, simply put, they will provide your next notebook. Well, maybe not, but they create high-end, top-quality niche products and workstations for serious gamers and the average notebook user as well. Clevo is a Taiwanese manufacturer that creates barebones notebook chasses for other OEMs to fill in with the necessary specific hardware components, providing materials for companies like HP and Lenovo/IBM to put their finishing touches upon. A little known fact is that Alienware used to be a Clevo reseller until they became so profitable that they were bought out by Dell. Among their loyal fan base, they are recognized for creating solid, durable and stylish notebooks for everyone. They have service centers all over the world, notably in the United States, China, United Kingdom, Germany and Taiwan.

whyclevo Why should I buy a Clevo product?

There are a number of reasons why a Clevo product might be best suited for your needs. Amongst them are:

    1) Pricing: Clevo notebooks are very often competitively priced, which means you get the best price/performance ratio and the most bang for your buck, especially with the high-end systems. Of course, the company has to make a profit in order to keep the production going, and a lot of components have pricing schedules set by the original manufacturers, but the resellers are able to adjust for small differences in cost because of their smaller operations and greater flexibility.

    2) Quality: Probably the biggest strength of Clevo notebooks is their build quality, which is, in my humble opinion, top-notch and is right up there with Apple and Lenovo. Furthermore, they are not as flashy and eye-catching as other mainstream products, which may be a good thing if you are trying to prevent theft and maintain a professional look. Other than subjective cosmetic preferences, you will find that they are built like a tank, with minimal flex. (A note: Do not expect them to have the ruggedness of Panasonic Toughbooks, though. These are consumer notebooks.)

    3) Software: One of my personal favorite qualities about Clevo notebooks is that there is a fortunate lack of bloatware/crapware that often accompanies other vendors’ products. To me, that indicates the presence of a focus on the customer, and not on fulfilling obligations towards other companies.

    4) Upgradeability: This is often the main reason why most people who are interested in this brand end up buying the notebook in the end. Clevos are legendary for their user-accessibility and their upgradeability. You will not find such a wide and open-ended warranty agreement in most other vendors, with prohibitive stickers preventing you from upgrading one component. No, in fact, Clevos are the ultimate brand in longevity because they not only provide support for future products, and even backward-compatibility, but they also sometimes encourage their customers to upgrade their machines somewhere down the line. It is an easy and often educational process for the laptop-savvy.

    Resellers

Perhaps Clevo’s greatest strength lies in their resellers, renowned for their world-class personalized Customer Service, aggressive pricing schemes and always professional conduct. Once again, they are listed in no particular order.

Forum-Recommended Resellers: These are resellers that have proven themselves in the NBR forums, providing support and gathering a loyal fan base. They have been participating in NBR for at least 6 months and have a proven track record:

    <head><style type=\"text/css\"> <!-- .style3 { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 24px; font-weight: bold; } .style6 { font-size: larger; font-weight: bold; } .style9 { font-size: x-large; font-weight: bold; } body,td,th { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; } .style11 { font-size: large; font-weight: bold; } .style12 {color: #FF0000} .style17 {font-size: x-small} .style19 { color: #009900; font-weight: bold; } .style20 {font-size: large} .style21 {color: #009900} .style22 {color: #00CC00} .style23 {font-size: 24px; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;} --> </style> <type=\"text/JavaScript\"> <!-- function MM_preloadImages() { //v3.0 var d=document; if(d.images){ if(!d.MM_p) d.MM_p=new Array(); var i,j=d.MM_p.length,a=MM_preloadImages.arguments; for(i=0; i<a.length; i++) if (a .indexOf(\"#\")!=0){ d.MM_p[j]=new Image; d.MM_p[j++].src=a;}} } //--> </script> </head>

    Common Sense Information:

You’d be surprised how little of common sense some people have. That is why I feel compelled to add this information from The Clevo Guide v2.0, authored by Gophn, who receives my heartiest and most appreciated thanks for providing the very efficient and organized framework for The Clevo Guide v3.0 as well as some of the information below:

    Temperatures Information:

So, a lot of people lately have been worrying about temperatures. Here is my take on it:

Idle: For most of the computers out there, including Sagers, a good idle temperature would be, in my opinion, under 45C. It's not bad if it's above it, and it most likely won't affect your components, but if you have anything higher than 45C on idle, perhaps one of your components are overheating. In my definition, idle means your computer is on for at least 5 minutes after startup, and you are literally doing nothing.

Normal usage: Now, this varies from person to person what "normal" constitutes. For one person, it might be chatting/im, which barely requires even an atom processor to utilize. For another, it could be heavy multitasking, with 20 tabs open in a browser, playing a game, chatting, running VMs; you know what I mean. Depending on what you do, you have to decide whether a temperature is too high, if it's too high for your preferences. For the multitasker, keeping temperatures under 65-70C is a good sign.

Heavy Gaming: This is where most people trip up. Because of the variety of products (components) out there, all with different architecture, cooling efficiencies, heat envelop, power requirements, etc....it's nearly impossible to pinpoint an exact "dangerous" temperature that would damage your laptop, either now or in the long run. That being said, a few (more knowledgeable than I) people have said this: Any temperature for any component above 95C is dangerous. That includes CPU, GPU, RAM, or whatever you can think of. 95C is the upper limit, and if you ever hit above that, you are risking your laptop. I do not condone overclocking precisely because of this reason. But some people like to play with fire (almost literally) with their brand new $3000 investment.

Do not forget that Sagers have a built in backup (or at least the 51xx and 81xx do): Press fn + 1, and you can activate "turbo fan". It's a big help when your temperatures are getting too high.

    OMG

    I feel like screaming. Seriously.

7+ hours wasted because of ONE really stupid "mistake". Apparently, I had spaces in between all of the commands because I was able to read it properly then...it turns out that all that "extra space" messed up the formatting!

Once I removed the spaces, everything looked fine! I didn't even need the CSS!

    Stupid, stupid, stupid...

I would like to request that Logical Blue One ( Logical Blue One - Buy Cheap Laptops & Notebooks Online. HP, Toshiba & ASUS Laptop Computer Sale | Logical Blue One) ( http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/user/80230) and Affordable Laptops ( Affordable Laptops - laptops, notebooks for sale online Australia) ( http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/user/102707) be added to the list of re-sellers of Clevo for Australia. Both vendors are very active on whirlpool.net.au and have lots of positive user feedback.

    Thanks

Thanks! :) I'll ask him for info.

Lol yeah...I was trying to learn everything (ok, not really, but the basics) in 11 hours when people learn stuff like this in a class over the course of a week....so yeah, frustration was mounting...especially since I did all of this after a long, physical day at work.

Yes, I know. But I have sent mythlogic emails (2, actually) asking them for information that is needed in the tables that hold the resellers' information...they haven't responded

Sure, I'll go ahead and check them out...since this is a thread for NBR, I would prefer them to have profiles on NBR, but I guess I could move out of my comfort zone a bit. But only because I've heard good things about LBO and AL. :)

Thanks Justin :D Perhaps you could give me some extra discounts? ;) Jk.

awesome just took a look. perhaps when you make the section about all of the current notebooks you could put which re-sellers carry which models. also include the differences between the models like between the 8130 8150 and 8170. make sure to include which graphics cards will work with each model i.e. 8130 with 580m, but you need to up the psu. good job so far, and hope you take my considerations.

I don't think people will be too lazy to click a link and find out which resellers are selling which product :p Let them do some work!

I've posted what I've been working on, what do you think?

Update: Finished with the notebooks...now onto Mythologic and a couple of others (GenTech PC, LogicalBlueOne, AffordableLaptops....and....I think that's it).

I'm pretty much done now. I might have to add three more resellers, but I'm waiting for the information to come in. Otherwise I'm done.

I'd like to vouch for LogicalBlueOne as well. They are pretty much top notch, comparable to the other worldwide resellers. And they in fact, do have a representative on NBR (user: jack-lbo). Just PM him and I think he'll get back to your inquiries.

And nice guide by the way :)

Like i posted before the p151hm and p150hm can only support 2 sticks of 4gb ram at 1600mhz, no more, but it can support 16bg at 1333mhz. however the p170hm can support 16gb at 1600mhz.

I find it kind of offensive that resellers would even put the option to do 16gb of 1600 Mhz ram on their website, seeing as it will just downclock to 1333 Mhz, so basically when you pick that option you are wasting your money. on a side note you can use pnp ram of any frequency, but it will be more expensive.

If what I'm saying is wrong someone please tell me, otherwise it needs to be put into the guide thanks.

btw looks really good and perhaps you could put the clevo name and then the sager name in the title for each section like the this Clevo P150HM/ Sager NP8130.

First, the laptops DO run just fine with 16GB of 1600MHz, or for that Fact 16GB of 1866MHz we wouldn't put it up there if it didn't that would be bad business.

    Ok,

So here is WHY the Clevo manuals state that only two sticks "support" 1600MHz, and why they "have" to be the bottom two.

So JEDEC has standards for signal and noise on the traces on the motherboard. JEDEC standard for 1600MHz basically makes the DIMM slots on the front of the board "too far" away from the CPU to allow them to be certified for higher speed. Now, NOTE this is a standard based on length and insulation etc, its not a hard and fast rule. So simply while the Clevo motherboards are not within JEDEC standard for 1600MHz they have designed the boards with enough insulation and tolerance to allow for the speeds anyway, but because they are not within the standard they don't advertise such a thing. Thats all, so after extensive testing we and other companies have proved it works just fine and we offer it to our customers. We would not be trying to pull a fast one on anyone =)

I don't understand your policy towards listing resellers ... is this to be US based only? Or only resellers that you ehm ... like? If that's not the case, surely you are missing dozens. 3 or 4 I can think of in Germany, 2 in France, 2 in the UK, 1 in Sweden, 1 in Norway .... and so on.

quick question: the only difference between the chassis of the 8130 and 8150 is the rubber coating surrounding the keyboard, and the lcd top. so couldn't you just swap those panels out?

Well, I was just PM'd by Malibal that they would be offering warranty that has Canada-based support with free 2-way shipping "soon"... and by that they mean it is being offered now :D So far, the only two resellers in the USA that I have seen with this kind of warranty are Mythlogic and now Malibal.

    Straight from Malibal's configuration:

"3 Year Ltd. Labor and 1 Year Parts Warranty with 24/7 Support (Canada)
Lifetime Support, FREE Shipping Both Ways & Serviced In Canada"

Maybe the reseller information should be updated to reflect this?
