Hello,
I'm quite interested in the Clevo M548R, as it has pretty much all the specs I want (except for a WXGA+ screen, but I can live with that). I have a few questions about it and Clevo in general so any help would be much appreciated.
1)Anyone know anything about this laptop at all? Google gives me 1 result, which is the Clevo website and details are a bit scarce.
2)What is the general consensus of Clevo quality versus, say a Thinkpad or HP business notebook?
3)Where can you buy Clevo products in North America (Canada or US is fine).
4)Do Clevo sell configured laptops or just barebones units, and what sort of warranty do they offer?
5)I have it on reasonably good authority that Clevo uses Texas Instruments as their firewire controllers. Any additional confirmations or denials of this fact would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

mattireland It used to be the iLand..
I've got that laptop - it's absolutely AMAZING - the best one I've ever had!
It's way better than all of those other makes you've mentioned. Get it from Evesham: http://www.evesham.com/products/info.asp?e=30BCFCE0-2187-4A08-BFCD-81810A831EF6
I do believe they ship to North America and the tech support os REALLY, REALLY friendly as is Customer Services.
I think its a three year warrantee, but don't quote me on that. Not sure about the firewire controllers - sorry.
As far as I know, they sell both configured laptops AND barebones units. -
Mattireland-
I'd be interested in knowing how you got one of these laptops, since they are NOT ON THE MARKET yet.
The one you linked to at evesham is NOT the one he is talking about. You linked to the 570u (Sager 5760).
He's talking about a new Santa Rosa model supporting 4 gig of Ram and having an onboard Intel DirextX 10 video card on a 14.1" LCD.
This model is not out yet.
Clevo does not sell directly to consumers. You must purchase through a reseller, such as Sager, PowerNotebooks, or Evesham.
Clevo does not warranty the product, this is also done through the reseller.
Did you even read his questions before posting?
diver dan-
As this is new model that is not on the market yet, there is not much information available on it yet. You will have to wait until it is released.
There are dozens of places to get Clevo products in north America. Check out the Clevo Guide sticky at the top of this forum for a list of resellers.
You can get barebones Clevo units from some resellers. RJTech is one place with a very good rep.
As far as the quality of Clevo/Sager products; it is very high. There are many threads on the satisfaction of Clevo/Sager owners in this forum. I am extremely happy with my 5760.
Warranty is usually 1 year. With options for up to 3 years. Again, this is through the reseller or Sager.
I am not familiar with the firewire specs, and do not have any firewire devices, so i can't accurately answer that question. -
Hey diver dan. I'm interested in a simular speced laptop as yours for the same reasons. I'm looking to install reason and cubase on one with a FW external HDD and USB 2.0 interface. The clevo FW chips are TI. The M548R is sounding interesting to me since it also will include dedicated graphics.
edit: oh wait, the graphics are integrated... booo!
