    Thanks for reading this.

In the BIOS on my Clevo M570A the IDE options are disabled. On the right hand side I get a message saying these options are disabled and if I want to change them I need to know the administrator password. What's that? Where can I type that password in? Is is some kind of key combinations?

The Master and Slave channels are set differently. The optical drive is set to slave where pretty much everything is set to the slowest value and/or disabled.
Is there a way to enable these options so I can change them?

    cheers,
    Robbie

Most of the Clevo BIOS's are optimized automated, which is why some of the features are locked.

The Password feature should be under Security.

    Thanks Gophn for the reply...
In the original BIOS of the laptop both sub-menues for IDE Master and Slave were locked. There was nothing I could change.
Since I updated the firmware from mobile-support.com I have got the Slave menu unlocked but not the Master. I had to change the DVD drive's firmware from Master mode to Slave as well...
Another interesting thing is that when I set the Slave Device to CD-ROM instead of Auto, I cannot boot from the optical drive. The drive only shows up in the boot menu (in BIOS as well as when pressing F1 upon boot) if it's auto detected...

In my previous post I incorrectly stated that I needed some admin password... In fact it has nothing to do with Security Admin Password.. sorry about that!

Is it possible to unlock this menu?

You have to realize that most notebooks' BIOS's are locked since the IDE/SATA controllers are integrated into the system and are set for each storage device location.

You cannot really force a device to go into Slave from Master, or vice versa.... especially through software. The location for each storage device in a notebook is set to cable-select (similar to desktops). So it automated.

It is possible to unlock the BIOS (Clevo repair and development has such versions), but you wont be able to mess with master/slave options since those are more "hardware connection" related than software related.

    Hope this helps,
    -Gophn

You're most probably right. Thank you for your help!
I wouldnt have thought about touching those settings if the notebook/optical drive had worked fine in the first place... :)
There's no need to swap devices if they are working OK.
