    Hi All!

I have a Clevo M570A notebook with a Toshiba SDR6572M DVDRW drive. Ever since I bought this beauty (a year ago) I have had problems with the drive. It's very picky, doesnt read/write specific disks. When burning DVD disks, it usually screws up 4 out of 10 disks. I've tried different vendors' disks, no use...
In my other laptop I have got a NEC 6650A DVDRW drive which works fine. BUT when i put it in the Clevo, it just stopped working. BIOS didnt detect the drive and even Windows recognized it as a DVD drive, it only worked in PIO mode, no DMA...
It seems that my notebook is very picky as well (because of the audio console in the front as I was told [which I think is BS] by the reseller). I would like to replace my drive with a new one. I tried to look up on the internet what drives other Clevo Notebooks were equipped with but I had no luck..
If you happen to have a Clevo M570A or newer notebook and the drive is working fine in your piece, would you let me know the make and model of that drive?
I dont want to invest money in a drive which is not compatible with the notebook.
    - I've tried to contact the manufacturer as well as the reseller I bought the laptop from... Got no reply from either of them...

    Thanks in advance,
    Robbie

    PS: Happy New Year

You should try the Pioneer DVR-K16, its one of the more commonly used DVD SuperMulti Drives used in current Clevo notebooks.

There is a newer Toshiba drive, but I cant recall at the moment, I'll update when I can confirm.

    Thanks guys!
    ungkaren: it's from a hungarian company called notebook.hu ( www.notebook.hu)
(my problem is that I live in London,UK and sending it back to Hungary would cause me more trouble and possibly money than replacing it myself)

Gophn: I can see you have the same drive in your D900k. Is it slave or master?

Because Im originally from Hungary. :)
I bought the notebook from them because in Hungary they are the official Clevo reseller. They also gave me 2 year warranty on it... So it was a pretty good deal. Unfortunately the after sale service is not that good :(
The notebook is sealed so I cannot open it without voiding the warranty. As it's been on 24/7 for a year I can imagine how much dust must have built up in the fans...I usually disassemble my other laptop every 3 months and clean it with a wet (not dripping! wet :) ) cloth....

Hi Rob, we have a cooling guide here you can look at.
Physically sealed, as in, if you open it, you break a seal? If not, then you should be able to remove the bottom panels on the notebook to get access to the fans in order to clean them out.

You can buy the optical drive almost anywhere on the web. It goes for about $60-80 US.

It should not void your warranty, the warranty does not prevent a customer from upgrading things themselves, it just protects the vendor in case that the systems gets screwed up due to a customer accidentally damaging it during an upgrade.

So if you upgrade it w/o problems, then your warranty is still good. :)

I ordered the pioneer drive you recommended this afternoon. It should arrive within a week (out of stock).
Thank you for the good news! I am happy that opening the bottom panel and tearing those holographic stickers dont void my warranty. (Even though it's a bit contradictory... If the seal is broken, there is no way for me to prove that my previous upgrade didnt damage my system but something else long after the upgrade did.)

If you want to nor damage those holographic stickers, just remove them:
    - use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm up the area where the sticker(s) is
    - then carefully peel off the sticker (it should come off easy as long as the surface around it is warm enough)
    - then place the sticker back when you did your upgrade
    - good as new ;)

    Simple physics and chem:
heat + adhesive (sticker) = adhesive butter :)
