Interesting problem... my laptop was working fine until recently, ill be on a game and suddenly things stop being rendered or i get diagonal lines across my screen and boom windows crashes "hardware malfunction, NMI Parity error." This happens a few more times and now it doesn't display anything on my screen when i try to boot. I turn it on, lights come on, i hear the computer check the Hdd and the back light comes on my screen but its blank.... i don't hear windows load or anything else happen. I checked the RAM only starting with one or the other... it was fine. Im thinking that the video card might be at fault and its gone bad. Ive contacted RJtech and they estimate that if its not fixable its $790 for a new card with $100 labor non including what i would pay for shipping. If it is fixable they estimate 300-400 dollars but I'm not to sure it is fixable. I'm running through other reasons why it could be dead but no avail. Do you guys know of any other reasons why it could be dead? you guys think its worth paying to get it fixed or just abandon for greener pastures?

I bought it in summer of 08 and used it pretty much everyday since.

Seems to be a pattern here with this model laptop. Have you been keeping it cleaned out? Buying a new gpu for the quoted price would be a rip off. You can buy a gtx 260m from rjtech for I believe 400$. You can try finding another 8800m gtx on ebay they have been sold there before for around 250. Or you can get a 8700m gt for around 100$. No reason to send it into them if your out of warranty.

    gtx 260m 415$

That sounds like one dead video card. There are a few things you can do:

    1. Bake your 8800m GTX back to life as a temporary fix.
    2. Buy a GTX 280m as a replacement, as it is cheaper than a new 8800m GTX (though it's still pricey).
    3. Abandon it for greener pastures and look for a new machine.

yeah every now and then i take the air duster and blast out any dust that might be in the laptop. When they told me how much it was i definitly started looking around, just found a 8800m GTX on ebay for $200 (was searching in the wrong area initially). I'd be willing to pay for the GTX 260 because of price and its a very nice card compared to the 8800, but does it fit the same socket and bay in the M570RU?

Both you guys had the same response i did and was half tempted to get the new Clevo W860CU, but it would be a month or two before i could get it... +rep to both lol

You would need a GTX 260m that uses the MXM 2.1 module in order for it to be compatible in your machine.

Can someone confirm this GPU can be used with an M570RU? Is there any kind of BIOS update needed? I have been under the impression that anything beyond the 8800M GTX was not and will never be compatible with this machine, even if it is the correct MXM slot.

My 8800m GTX died and everyone I spoke to at Sager, Exotic PC, and the NBR forums told me that 8800 was the lastest card that works.
